The Giants outplayed the Jets for the most part but they still lost the battle of New Jersey on Saturday Night.  Eli Manning had a rough night completing 9 of 21 passes for 91 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception.  David Carr almost brought the Giants all the way back in this game with a outstanding effort.  Carr completed 12 of 17 passes for 181 yards with 2 TD passes in this game.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 20 yards (10.0 ypc).  Ahmad Bradshaw led the way on the ground for the Giants in this game with 47 yards on 8 carries (5.9 ypc).  Danny Ware was also solid carrying the ball 9 times for 43 yards (4.8 ypc).  Rookie WR Hakeem Nicks had a monster game for the Giants catching 6 passes for 144 yards (24.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs (22 and 71 yards).  Mario Manningham was efficient in this game catching 4 passes for 41 yards (10.3 avg).  The Giants finished up with 379 total yards in this game (134 rushing, 245 passing).

LB Chase Blackburn led the way for the Giants in this game with 6 tackles.  The Jets finished up with 314 total yards in this game (99 rushing, 215 passing).

The Giants laid an egg last Saturday Night in Chicago.  Eli Manning started this game at QB and he was 7 of 10 for 62 yards passing.  David Carr made a quick exit after completing only 2 of 6 passes for 8 yards.  Andre Woodson finished up in this game by completing 7 of 16 passes for 95 yards.  Ahmad Bradshaw led the way on the ground for the Giants in this game with 54 yards rushing on 6 carries (9.0 ypc).  Danny Ware was also busy in this game with 34 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 30 yards (7.5 avg).  Rookie WR Hakeem Nicks only caught 1 pass in this game but it was a good one (55-yarder).  The Giants finished up this game with only 259 total yards on offense (119 rushing, 140 passing).

Safety C.C. Brown led a poor effort by the Giants’ defense in this game with 8 tackles.  The Bears finished up with 372 total yards on offense (150 rushing, 222 passing) and the Giants need to do better than that on defense.

New York Giants 24, Carolina Panthers 17

The Giants kept plugging along in this game before winning on the last play of it thanks to a fumble return for a TD by DE Tommie Hill.  Eli Manning made a very brief appearance in this game completing 2 of 3 passes for 31 yards.  David Carr was up next and he was solid completing 6 of 10 passes for 74 yards with a TD.  Andre Woodson had a rough time in this game completing 5 of 11 passes for 45 yards with 1 interception.  Rookie Rhett Bomar completed both of his pass attempts for 21 yards in his NFL debut.  Allen Patrick led the way for the Giants in the running game with 36 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.5 ypc).  Ahmad Bradshaw was his usual stellar self carrying the ball 5 times for 35 yards (7.0 ypc) with a TD run.  He also caught 2 passes for 17 yards.  Brandon Jacobs was also outstanding carrying the ball 4 times for 31 yards (7.8 ypc) and catching a pass for 13 yards.  Danny Ware only rushed for 21 yards on 12 carries (1.8 ypc) but he also caught 2 passes for 43 yards (21.5 avg) with a TD grab.  The Giants finished up with only 279 yards of offense in this game (139 rushing, 140 passing) but it was enough to win the game and that’s what you play for.

CB Travonti Johnson led the way for the Giants’ defense in this game with 7 tackles.  But, DE Tommie Hill was the hero in this game despite only making 1 tackle and he returned a fumble 18 yards for a TD on the last play of the game.  The Panthers finished up with only 276 yards of total offense (124 rushing, 152 passing) so the Giants’ D looked pretty decent.

The Giants played keepaway from the Patriots and that’s the reason they won this football game.  David Carr played most of this game for the Giants as he completed 20 of 29 passes for 192 yards with 2 TD passes.  TE Darcy Johnson caught a 26-yard TD from Carr and WR Sinorice Moss caught a 9-yarder.  Danny Ware led the Giants in rushing in this game as he rushed for 49 yards on 13 carries (3.8 ypc).  Reuben Droughns was also busy with 34 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.3 ypc).  Brandon Jacobs was very effective in his limited time on the field as he carried the ball 3 times for 32 yards (10.7 ypc).  Ahmad Bradshaw pitched in with 30 yards rushing on 12 carries (2.5 ypc) in this game.  Rookie WR Mario Manningham led the way for the Giants in the passing game with 41 yards on 5 catches (8.2 avg). WR Brandon London also had a solid game with 4 grabs for 40 yards (10.0 avg).  The Giants finished up with 159 yards rushing on 43 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 29 passes for 180 yards.  The Giants had possession of the football for an amazing 39:50 of this football game!

The Giants’ defense was led by safety Michael Johnson and linebacker Chase Blackburn and Gerris Wilkerson who each had 5 tackles apiece.  The Giants held the Patriots to 80 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 19 passes for 117 yards.  The Giants finished up the preseason with a 2-2 record.

The Giants played pretty solid defense on Saturday Night but they couldn’t get anything going on offense and it cost them this football game.  Eli Manning started for the Giants and he completed 10 of 17 passes for 113 yards without a TD pass or an interception.  David Carr made a brief appearance completing both of his pass attempts for 18 yards.  Rookie QB Andre’ Woodson finished up the game and he didn’t look good completing 3 of 8 passes for 41 yards with a pickoff.  Derrick Ward led the Giants’ in rushing against the Jets with 36 yards on only 4 carries (9.0 ypc).  2nd year running back Ahmad Bradshaw also had a solid game with 7 carries for 28 yards (4.0 ypc) with a 1-yard TD run.  Brandon Jacobs was also busy with 26 yards rushing on only 6 carries (4.3 ypc).  Dominek Hixon led the Giants again with 51 yards receiving on 3 catches (17.0 avg).  Rookie Mario Manningham also had a decent game with 3 catches for 41 yards (13.7 avg).  Steve Smith pitched in with 4 grabs for 37 yards (9.3 avg).  The Giants finished up with 107 yards rushing on 21 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 27 passes for 115 yards.

Linebacker Gerris Wilkerson led a solid effort by the Giants’ run defense with 9 tackles last Saturday Night.  Safety Sammy Knight pitched in with 5 tackles.  The Jets finished up with only 58 yards rushing on 26 carries (2.2 ypc) in this game but they completed 20 of 28 passes for 214 yards.  The Giants’ defense just couldn’t get off of the football field in this game as the Jets had possession of the football for 34:24.

The final score does not indicate how well the Giants played in this football game as they were up 30-3 1 minute into the 2nd quarter.  Eli Manning was very sharp as he completed 4 of 7 passes for 52 yards with 2 TD passes (11 and 24 yarders to Domenik Hixon).  Anthony Wright followed Manning and he was very ineffective as he completed 4 of 8 passes for 34 yards with 1 interception.  David Carr followed Wright and he was so-so completing 7 of 14 passes for 53 yards.  Rookie Andre’ Woodson finished up and he threw only one pass and he didn’t complete it.  Danny Ware was awesome in leading the Giants in rushing with 97 yards on 10 carries (9.7 ypc).  2nd year RB Ahmad Bradshaw was very busy also with 8 carries for 28 yards (3.5 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 4 passes for 24 yards (6.0 avg).  Derrick Ward pitched in with 25 yards rushing on 5 carries (5.0 ypc) and Brandon Jacobs carried the ball 7 times for 24 yards (3.4 ypc).  WR/KR Domenik Hixon was the MVP of this football game for the Giants as he caught 4 passes for 63 yards (15.8 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He also returned a kickoff 82 yards for a TD against the Browns.  The Giants rushed for 201 yards on 36 carries (5.6 ypc) last night against the Browns and they also completed 15 of 30 passes for 129 yards.

The first team defense played great for the Giants last night but the backups were awful almost letting the Browns come all the way back.  Linebacker Bryan Kehl led the way for the Giants on defense in this game with 5 tackles.  FS James Butler didn’t make any tackles but he scored on a 94-yard fumble return for a TD.  The Browns finished up with 74 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 33 passes for 279 yards.

Detroit Lions 13, New York Giants 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Pre-Season by admin on Thursday 7 August 2008 at 10:42 pm

The Giants didn’t look to interested in tonight’s preseason opener in Detroit.  Eli Manning made a quick exit after completing only 2 of 6 passes for 19 yards.  Anthony Wright followed Manning in the game and he was 9 of 13 passing for 116 yards.  David Carr led the Giants to the only TD they would score on the night hitting WR Craponso Thorpe with a 13-yard TD pass.  Carr was the most impressive QB of the night for the Giants as he completed 10 of 13 passes for 104 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 interceptions.   Brandon Jacobs led the Giants in rushing with 27 yards on only 2 carries (13.5 ypc).  WR Sinorice Moss might have woken up tonight knowing that he has to fight for a roster spot as he caught 2 passes for 55 yards (27.5 avg).  The Giants rushed for 79 yards in tonight’s game on 24 carries (3.3 ypc) and that’s not too good.  They also completed 21 of 32 passes for 231 yards.  They have a few things to work on before the season starts in September.

The defense was led by rookie safety Kenny Phillips with 8 tackles.  Linebacker Chase Blackburn of the powerful University of Akron finished up with 7 tackles.  The run defense was pretty solid for the Giants tonight as they held the Lions to 84 yards rushing on 35 carries (2.4 ypc).  They did have some issues however defending the pass as the Lions completed 19 of 24 passes for 214 yards.

I know it’s only the pre-season but Giants’ fans have to be a little worried about getting beaten by the scrubs that the Patriots were playing last night.  Eli Manning made a brief appearance completing 5 of 8 passes for 58 yards.  After Manning left Coach Coughlin wanted to get a good look at his backup QBs as he decides which two to keep.  Based off of last night’s game you would think that Anthony Wright would get one of the spots as he completed 5 of 8 passes for 70 yards.  Jared Lorenzen completed 10 of 16 passes for 53 yards but he had problems getting rid of the ball as the Patriots were sacking him at well.  Tim Hasselbeck finished up the game completing 3 of 6 passes for 31 yards with a interception.  Brandon Jacobs didn’t run too well last night as he carried the football 8 times for 21 yards (2.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Reuben Droughns had a solid game with 5 carries for 38 yards (7.6 ypc).  Derrick Ward had another solid game with 4 carries for 25 yards (6.3 ypc).  Rookie Ahmad Bradshaw had another stellar game with 6 carries for 46 yards (7.7 ypc).  2nd year receiver Kevin McMahan had a solid game with 3 grabs for 57 yards and TE Jeremy Shockey was also busy with 4 grabs for 47 yards.  The offense of the Giants looked pretty good as they finished with 144 yards rushing on 28 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 28 passes for 175 yards.

The Giants defense wasn’t too bad against the run holding the Patriots to 95 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.7 ypc) but the Patriots threw the ball all over them.  Despite Tom Brady not playing a down, the Patriots completed 24 of 34 passes for 237 yards.

The Giants moved the football and played solid defense despite losing this football game.  Eli Manning looked sharp completing 17 of 25 passes for 146 yards with 1 TD pass.  Backup Anthony Wright followed Manning in the game and he did not look good completing only 3 of 7 passes for 14 yards.  Tim Hasselbeck finished up the game completing 3 of 6 passes for 33 yards.  Brandon Jacobs got his work in carrying the football 11 times for 43 yards (3.9 ypc).  Rookie Ahmad Bradshaw continued his fine pre-season with 42 yards on 8 carries (5.3 ypc).  Reuben Droughns also pitched in with 22 yards rushing on 6 carries (3.7 ypc).  Amani Toomer (4 rec, 47 yards) and Anthony Mix (7 rec, 45 yards, TD) both did well catching the football against the Jets.  The Giants finished up with 30 carries for 136 yards (4.5 ypc) and they completed 23 of 38 passes for 175 yards.

The defense was solid despite the final score.  The Giants held the Jets to 85 yards rushing on 28 carries (3.0 ypc) and the Jets completed 13 of 22 passes for 194 yards.

New York Giants 13, Baltimore Ravens 12

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Pre-Season by JessePex on Monday 20 August 2007 at 3:45 pm

The New York Giants grinded out a hard fought victory over the Ravens last night.  They did it with defense and running the football on offense.  Eli Manning looked solid when he was in the game as he completed 10 of 13 passes for 114 yards and a TD.  Jared Lorenzen followed Manning and he made just enough plays to keep the Giants in front.  He completed 4 of 8 passes for 34 yards and he also ran the football 2 times for 21 yards (10.5 ypc).  Tim Hasselbeck finished up completing 1 of 4 passes for 11 yards.  Rookie Ahmad Bradshaw was unstoppable last night as he rushed for 70 yards on 7 carries (10.0 ypc).  Ryan Grant (7 car, 31 yards) and Derrick Ward (4 car, 18 yards) could be battling for 1 roster spot and they both looked good last week.  Brandon Jacobs looked o.k. carrying the ball 6 times for 23 yards (3.8 ypc) but Reuben Droughns didn’t look good carrying the ball 6 times for only 11 yards (1.8 ypc).  Anthony Mix had another solid week at WR as he caught 5 passes for 43 yards (8.6 avg).  Rookie Steve Smith from USC caught 2 passes for 19 yards and one of them was for a TD from Eli Manning.  The Giants showed off a powerful running game as they carried the ball 34 times for 182 yards (5.4 ypc) and they completed 15 of 25 passes for 116 yards.  The Giants controlled the clock for 35:51 of the football game and that was a key factor in the victory.

The defense looked solid as they held the Ravens to 75 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.6 ypc) and they only allowed the Ravens to throw for 136 yards on 16 of 29 passing.
