The New York Giants will have their fingers crossed if the game comes down to a big kick

33-year old kicker Lawrence Tynes isn’t the most accurate kicker around, so the Giants will likely have to adjust the game plan to compensate for that a little bit this Sunday.  Tynes played in all 16 games for the Giants this year and he connected on 19 of 24 field goals (79.2%) and all 43 of his extra points, good for 100 points.  Tynes has now played in 113 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has connected on 157 of 194 field goal attempts (80.9%) and 311 of 317 extra points, good for 782 points.  Tynes has now played in 9 games in the post-season in his NFL career and he has made 11 of 16 field goals (68.8%) and all 19 of his extra points, good for 52 points.  Hopefully, Tynes is more accurate than usual this Sunday.

The New York Giants lose LT William Beatty indefinitely

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 2:26 am

The New York Giants have lost 26-year old LT William Beatty indefinitely as he will have surgery tomorrow to repair a detached retina in his right eye.  He has played in 10 games (all starts) for the Giants this year.  He has now played in 34 games (16 starts) in his first three years with the Giants.  30-year old Stacy Andrews will likely replace Beatty in the starting lineup at LT.  Andrews has played in 8 games (2 starts) for the Giants so far this year.  He has played in 93 games (48 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL.  He might actually wind up being an upgrade over Beatty.

UPDATE:  David Diehl will move from left guard to left tackle to block on Eli Manning’s blind side.

UPDATE II:  (11/30/2011) – The Giants have placed William Beatty on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season.

The New York Giants could use a little more production out of the return game

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Saturday 5 November 2011 at 5:49 pm

The New York Giants could use a little more production out of the return game.  Devin Thomas has done a solid job on kickoffs with 18 returns for 456 yards (25.3 avg) so far this year.  RB D.J. Ware has pitched in with 2 kickoff returns for only 17 yards.  Domenik Hixon was lost early this year due to injury and he will finish this year with 3 punt returns for 31 yards (10.3 avg).  CB Aaron Ross has replaced Hixon and he has returned 12 punts for 100 yards (8.3 avg) so far this year.  The Giants have returned 20 kickoffs for 473 yards (23.7 avg) and 15 punts for 131 yards (8.7 avg) so far this year.

The New York Giants will likely be without Ahmad Bradshaw for a while

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 3 November 2011 at 7:19 pm

The Giants are going to likely be without starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw for a while he has a cracked bone in one of his feet.  Bradshaw has played in 7 games (all starts) for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 111 times for 440 yards (4.0 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 24 passes for 210 yards (8.8 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  Brandon Jacobs will likely take over as the featured back for the Giants.  He has played in 5 games for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 42 times for 126 yards (3.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Jacobs has also caught 5 passes for 59 yards (11.8 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  He is more than capable of handling a heavy workload while Bradshaw is out of action.  D.J. Ware will likely also move up on the depth chart.  He has played in 7 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 14 carries for 45 yards (3.2 ypc) and he has also caught 4 passes for 32 yards (8.0 avg).  He will likely step up for the Giants as he is a solid back.

The New York Giants need more production out of the running game

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Saturday 22 October 2011 at 6:00 pm

The New York Giants are flat out not running the ball too well so far this year.  They are averaging 90.2 yards rushing per game and only 3.3 yards per carry so far this year.  You can’t blame Ahmad Bradshaw for the Giants’ problems running the ball so far this year.  He has played in all six games for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 98 times for 390 yards (4.0 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  Bradshaw has also caught 19 passes for 172 yards (9.1 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  Brandon Jacobs is having a rough time this year due to injuries.  He has played in 4 games for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 38 times for 116 yards (3.1 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Jacobs has also caught 4 passes for 58 yards (14.5 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  The Giants hope that Jacobs will get healthy and back to the RB he used to be.  D.J. Ware has played in all six games for the Giants so far this year and he has 44 yards rushing on 12 carries (3.7 ypc).  He has also caught 3 passes for 27 yards (9.0 avg) so far this year.  The bottom line is that the Giants need more out of the running game after this week’s bye.

Eli Manning has been so-so this year for the New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Wednesday 21 September 2011 at 7:37 pm

30-year old QB Eli Manning has only been so-so this year.  He has played in both of the Giants’ games so far this year and he has completed 36 of 61 passes (59%) for 468 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs (80.5 QB Rating).  Manning has also carried the ball 5 times for -10 yards (-2.0 ypc) so far this year.  The Giants need Manning to be more consistent on the good side then he has been in the past, because the Giants are going to likely have to outscore opponents a lot this year due to all of the injuries on the defensive side of the football.

Eli Manning remains steady for the New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 27 January 2011 at 9:22 pm

30-year old Eli Manning is a solid but not great QB.  At this point in his career, he is what he is.  Manning played in all 16 games for the Giants last season and he completed 339 of 539 passes (62.9%) for 4,002 yards with 31 TD passes and 25 INTs (85.3 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 32 times for 70 yards (2.2 ypc) last season.  He has now played in 105 games in his 7 years with the Giants and he has completed 1,932 of 3,332 passes (58%) for 22,646 yards with 156 TD passes and 113 INTs (80.2 QB Rating).  Manning also has carried the ball 158 times for 350 yards (2.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs in his career.  I don’t see the Giants changing QBs any time soon.

30-year old Jim Sorgi was Peyton Manning’s backup in Indy before backing up his brother last season for the Giants.  He didn’t get onto the field for the Giants last season.  Sorgi has played in 16 games in his NFL career and he has completed 99 of 156 passes (63.5%) for 929 yards with 6 TD passes and 1 INT (89.9 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 31 times for 0 yards (0.0 ypc) in his NFL career.  Most of those carries were kneel downs at the end of games.

VERDICT:  Although the Giants would probably like Manning to cut down on the pickoffs, I don’t see them making any changes at QB for 2011.

The New York Giants need Eli Manning to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Friday 10 December 2010 at 6:46 pm

29-year old QB Eli Manning has been without his two top WRs (Steve Smith & Hakeem Nicks) lately but the Giants need him to rise above that.  In his last three games (the Giants are 2-1), Manning has completed 47 of 82 passes (57.3%) for 534 yards with 4 TD passes and 4 INTs.  Overall this season, Manning has played in 12 games in which he has completed 260 of 401 passes (64.8%) for 2,982 yards with 23 TD passes and 17 INTs (88.6 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 27 times for 47 yards (1.7 ypc) so far this year.  If the Giants are going to beat out the Eagles to win the AFC East, they are going to need Eli Manning to step up.

The New York Giants switch roles for the RBs going forward

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 25 November 2010 at 7:07 pm

Head coach Tom Coughlin has decided to replace Ahmad Bradshaw as the starting RB with Brandon Jacobs.  Bradshaw has lost his starting job because of his five lost fumbles.  When he holds onto the football he has been quite effective.  Bradshaw has played in 10 games for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 185 times for 867 yards (4.7 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 28 passes for 197 yards (7.0 avg).  Brandon Jacobs has been chomping at the bit waiting for an opportunity like this one and I look for him to respond in a big way.  Jacobs has played in 10 games for the Giants this year and he has carried the ball 78 times for 387 yards (5.0 ypc) with 5 TD carries.  He has also caught 7 passes for 59 yards (8.4 avg) so far this season.  Jacobs is going to be fresh right now which will be a big problem for the defenses playing the Giants.

Kevin Boss seems like the forgotten man of the New York Giants’ offense

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Needs to Step Up by admin on Friday 29 October 2010 at 2:08 pm

Starting TE Kevin Boss seems like the forgotten man of the Giants’ offense so far this year.  He has played in 7 games for the Giants so far this year and he has caught 12 passes for 200 yards (16.7 avg).  Boss has now played in 49 games in his career with the Giants over 4 seasons and he has caught 96 passes for 1,269 yards (13.2 avg) with 13 TD grabs.  Boss is likely the 5th option in the passing game for the Giants but he’s very dependable when they decide to go to him.
