The New York Giants lose Dave Tollefson for a while

The New York Giants will be without DE Dave Tollefson for the next 2-4 weeks due to a MCL sprain.  Tollefson has played in 13 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 20 tackles, 1/2 a sack, 3 passes defensed and he has forced 3 fumbles.  Tollefson has now played in 47 games in his first four years with the Giants and he has 60 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.  Tollefson’s injury will hurt the Giants’ depth along the D-Line.

The New York Giants lose Steve Smith for the rest of the year

The Giants have placed 25-year old WR Steve Smith on the Injured Reserve List due to impending knee surgery.  Smith played in 9 games for the Giants this year and he caught 48 passes for 529 yards (11.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He has now played in 46 games in his first four years for the Giants and he has caught 220 passes for 2,386 yards (10.8 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  This is a huge blow to the Giants as Smith was Eli Manning’s favorite receiver on the short stuff.  The Giants will likely expand TE Kevin Boss’ role the rest of the season in the passing game.

The New York Giants lose Clint Sintim for the year

The New York Giants have placed 24-year old linebacker Clint Sintim on I.R. with a torn ACL.  Sintim played in 13 games for the Giants this year and he had 13 tackles.  Sintim has now played in 24 games in his first two years with the Giants and he has 33 tackles and 1 sack.  This injury will hurt the Giants’ depth at linebacker and on special teams.

The New York Giants place fullback Madison Hedgecock on I.R.

The Giants have placed 29-year old fullback Madison Hedgecock on the Injured Reserve List ending his season due to a hamstring injury.  Hedgecock played in 4 games for the Giants this season and he caught 4 passes for 8 yards (2.0 avg).  He has now played in 51 games in four years with the Giants and he has carried the ball 1 time for 0 yards.  He has also caught 20 passes for 128 yards (6.4 avg) with 2 TD grabs for the Giants.  The Giants won’t miss Hedgecock too much as Bear Pascoe is doing a solid job in his place.

The New York Giants lose Hakeem Nicks for the next 3 weeks

The Giants will be without 22-year old WR Hakeem Nicks for the next three weeks due to something called compartment syndrome in his lower right leg.  This is a huge blow to the Giants who already are without Steve Smith due to a pectoral injury.  Nicks has played in 10 games for the Giants so far this year and he has caught 62 passes for 800 yards (12.9 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  Nicks has went over 100 yards receiving 4 times this season for the Giants and he has caught multiple TDs in 3 games so the Giants are going to miss him big time!   He has now played in 24 games in his first two years with the Giants and he has 109 catches for 1,590 yards (14.6 avg) with 15 TD grabs.

The New York Giants lose Ramses Barden for the rest of the year

The Giants will be without 24-year old WR Ramses Barden for the rest of the year due to ligament damage in his left foot and a fractured left leg.  Barden played in 6 games for the Giants this year and he had 5 catches for 64 yards (12.8 avg).  He has played in 9 games in his first two years with the Giants and he has 6 grabs for 80 yards (13.3 avg).  This is a big blow for Barden and the Giants as he was in line to get his big chance to show what he could do because of the injury to Steve Smith.

Steve Smith won’t be playing for the New York Giants tomorrow

25-year old WR Steve Smith won’t be playing tomorrow due to a strained pectoral muscle.  Smith has played in 8 games for the Giants this year and he has 47 grabs for 517 yards (11.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He is only likely to miss one week.  Mario Manningham & Kevin Boss will likely get more passes thrown their way than usual tomorrow to make up for Smith’s absence.

UPDATE:  (11/16/2010) – The Giants will be without Steve Smith until at least early December as his pectoral muscle is actually torn.

The New York Giants lose Adam Koets for the year

The Giants have lost 26-year old C/G Adam Koets for the rest of the season due to a torn left ACL.  Koets signed a 2-year extension with the Giants the day before he was injured.  Koets played in 8 games (4 starts) for the Giants this year.  He has now played in 11 games (4 starts) in his first 4 years in the NFL.  This is a big blow to the Giants as Koets was filling in for Shaun O’Hara at center.

UPDATE:  (11/9/2011) – The Giants have released Adam Koets.

The New York Giants lose LT David Diehl indefinitely

The Giants have lost starting LT David Diehl indefinitely with a torn hamstring.  Diehl has started all 8 games for the Giants this year.  In fact this week’s game will be the first one that Diehl has missed in his NFL career in 8 years.  He has started 120 games for the Giants and he will be very hard to replace.

The Giants have placed 22-year old cornerback Bruce Johnson on the Injured Reserve List ending his season due to knee surgery.  Johnson played in 6 games for the Giants this year and he had 5 tackles.  Johnson has played in 22 games in his first two years with the Giants and he has 51 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions (one he returned for a TD).  The Giants’ depth at CB takes a hit with Johnson going down to injury.
