The New York Giants lose safety Kenny Phillips for a while

The Giants will be without 25-year old safety Kenny Phillips for the next 1-2 weeks due to a left MCL sprain.  Phillips has played in 11 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 66 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 1 tackle for a loss.  32-year old Deon Grant will replace Phillips in the starting lineup until he’s ready to return to action.  Grant has played in 12 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 48 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception, 1 sack and 1 tackle for a loss.  Grant should be able to do a solid job until Phillips is ready to return to action.

The New York Giants lose Osi Umenyiora for the next 2-4 weeks

The Giants have lost 30-year old DE Osi Umenyiora for the next 2-4 weeks due to a badly sprained ankle.  He has played in 8 games for the Giants this year and he has 23 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  Umenyiora has now played in 112 games in his first 8 years with the Giants and he has 331 tackles, 67 sacks, 23 tackles for a loss, 30 forced fumbles, 13 fumble recoveries and 12 passes defensed.  The Giants are going to miss Umenyiora’s playmaking ability while he’s out of action.

The New York Giants have placed WR Michael Clayton on I.R.

The Giants have lost 29-year old WR Michael Clayton for the rest of the year due to a knee injury.  Clayton played in 5 games for the Giants this year but he didn’t catch any passes.  He had 1 tackle on the year for the Giants.  Clayton has played in 11 games for the Giants in his first two years with them and he has caught 2 passes for 19 yards (9.5 avg) and he has 1 tackle.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Giants.

The New York Giants lose LT William Beatty indefinitely

The New York Giants have lost 26-year old LT William Beatty indefinitely as he will have surgery tomorrow to repair a detached retina in his right eye.  He has played in 10 games (all starts) for the Giants this year.  He has now played in 34 games (16 starts) in his first three years with the Giants.  30-year old Stacy Andrews will likely replace Beatty in the starting lineup at LT.  Andrews has played in 8 games (2 starts) for the Giants so far this year.  He has played in 93 games (48 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL.  He might actually wind up being an upgrade over Beatty.

UPDATE:  David Diehl will move from left guard to left tackle to block on Eli Manning’s blind side.

UPDATE II:  (11/30/2011) – The Giants have placed William Beatty on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season.

The New York Giants lose CB Michael Coe for the rest of the year

The Giants have placed 27-year old cornerback Michael Coe on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to shoulder surgery.  Coe played in 10 games for the Giants this year and he had 10 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 14 games in his first two years with the Giants and he has 16 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  This is not a big loss for the Giants going forward.

The New York Giants will likely be without Ahmad Bradshaw for a while

The Giants are going to likely be without starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw for a while he has a cracked bone in one of his feet.  Bradshaw has played in 7 games (all starts) for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 111 times for 440 yards (4.0 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 24 passes for 210 yards (8.8 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  Brandon Jacobs will likely take over as the featured back for the Giants.  He has played in 5 games for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 42 times for 126 yards (3.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Jacobs has also caught 5 passes for 59 yards (11.8 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  He is more than capable of handling a heavy workload while Bradshaw is out of action.  D.J. Ware will likely also move up on the depth chart.  He has played in 7 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 14 carries for 45 yards (3.2 ypc) and he has also caught 4 passes for 32 yards (8.0 avg).  He will likely step up for the Giants as he is a solid back.

Mario Manningham is cleared to return to action with the New York Giants

25-year old WR Mario Manningham has been cleared to return to action after missing yesterday’s game with the Eagles due to a concussion.  Manningham has played in 2 games for the Giants so far this year and he has caught 7 passes for 105 yards (15.0 avg).  This is good news for the Giants, as Manningham will give the Giants a very solid top three at WR along with Hakeem Nicks and the suddenly red hot Victor Cruz.

The New York Giants lose WR Domenik Hixon for the year

The Giants have lost 26-year old WR/PR/KR Domenik Hixon for the rest of the season due to a torn right ACL.  This was the second time in 15 months that Hixon has blown out his right knee.  He played in both of the Giants games this year and he caught 4 passes for 50 yards (12.5 avg) with an amazing TD grab last Monday Night.  Hixon also returned 3 punts for 31 yards (10.3 avg) this year.  Hixon has now played in 48 games in his first 5 years with the Giants and he has caught 63 passes for 838 yards (13.3 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  He has also returned 51 punts for 561 yards (11.0 avg) with 1 TD return and 80 kickoffs for 1,966 yards (24.6 avg) with 1 TD return.  This is a big blow to the Giants as they were depending on Hixon to be the #3 WR in 2011.

The New York Giants lose LB Jonathan Goff for the year

The Giants have lost 25-year old inside linebacker Jonathan Goff for the 2011 season due to a torn ACL.  Goff played in all 16 games for the Giants last year and he had 80 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  Goff has now played in 37 games in his first 3 years in the NFL and he has 107 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 4 passes defensed and 1 interception.  This injury is the latest blow to a Giants’ defense that looks like it’s going to have some big time issues stopping opposing teams in 2011.

The New York Giants place Sage Rosenfels on I.R.

The Giants have placed 33-year old QB Sage Rosenfels on the Injured Reserve List due to a back injury.  Rosenfels played in 12 games (0 starts) in his first season with the Giants but he didn’t throw any passes.  He was the holder on kicks.  David Carr will replace Rosenfels in 2011 as the Giants’ #2 QB and he should be able to do a good job if he’s needed.
