The New York Giants bring back CB/PR/KR Will Blackmon

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 2:22 am

The Giants have signed 27-year old CB/PR/KR Will Blackmon.  Blackmon played in 5 games for the Giants last year and he had 2 tackles.  He also returned 14 punts for 94 yards (6.7 avg) and 13 kickoffs for 238 yards (18.3 avg) last year for the Giants.  Blackmon has now played in 37 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 43 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 pass defensed.  He has also returned 61 punts for 609 yards (10.0 avg) with 3 TD returns and he has returned 79 kickoffs for 1,631 yards (20.6 avg) in his career.

The Giants have signed 27-year old cornerback Justin Tryon.  Tryon played in 3 games earlier this year for the Colts and he had 7 tackles.  Tryon has now played in 44 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 82 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, 10 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was a good signing for the Giants as they need all the help they can get at cornerback.

The New York Giants re-sign WR Michael Clayton

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 23 September 2011 at 9:11 pm

The Giants have re-signed 28-year old WR Michael Clayton.  Clayton played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Giants last year and he caught 2 passes for 19 yards (9.5 avg).  He has now played in 90 games (56 starts) in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has caught 223 passes for 2,955 yards (13.3 avg) with 10 TD grabs.  Clayton has also carried the ball 18 times for 100 yards (5.6 ypc) without any TD runs in his career so far.  This was a good signing for the Giants as they are suffering a lot of injuries at WR with Domenik Hixon out for the year (torn ACL) and Mario Manningham nursing a concussion.

The New York Giants sign WR Brandon Stokley

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 2:17 am

The Giants have signed 35-year old WR Brandon Stokley.  Stokley played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks last year and he caught 31 passes for 354 yards (11.4 avg) with 0 TD grabs.  He has now played in 129 games (35 starts) in his first 12 years in the NFL and he has caught 338 passes for 4,673 yards (13.8 avg) with 34 TD grabs.  This is a good signing for the Giants.  They might be without Hakeem Nicks against the Rams.  Even if Nicks plays, Stokley could the the Giants’ #3 WR on Monday Night, as Victor Cruz did nothing in the season opener against the Redskins last weekend.

The New York Giants sign CB Brian Williams

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 25 August 2011 at 2:48 pm

The Giants have signed 32-year old cornerback Brian Williams.  Williams played in all 16 games for the Falcons last year and he had 36 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 fumble recovery.  He has now played in 128 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has 500 tackles, 5 sacks, 21 tackles for a loss, 9 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 74 passes defensed and 19 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  After a rash of injuries at cornerback, the Giants did well to find a veteran with as much experience as Williams.

The New York Giants sign DT Jimmy Kennedy

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 9:50 pm

The Giants have signed 31-year old DT Jimmy Kennedy.  Kennedy played in 9 games for the Vikings last year and he had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1/2 a sack.  Kennedy has now played in 86 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 125 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 5 passes defensed and 17 tackles for a loss.  It was slim pickings on the free agency market at DT, so the Giants did the best they could by bringing in an experienced guy like Kennedy.

The New York Giants sign safety Derrick Martin

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 16 August 2011 at 2:46 pm

The Giants have signed 26-year old safety Derrick Martin.  Martin played in 5 games for the Packers last season and he had 9 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  He has now played in 47 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 80 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 3 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery.  Martin is an outstanding special teams player and that will be his biggest role with the Giants.  He will also provide depth in the secondary.  This was a good signing for the Giants so late in the free agency game.

The New York Giants sign TE Daniel Coats

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 8 August 2011 at 1:01 pm

The New York Giants have signed 27-year old TE Daniel Coats.  Coats played in 10 games (0 starts) for the Broncos and Bengals last season but he didn’t catch any passes.  Coats has now played in 57 games (18 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 30 passes for 291 yards (9.7 avg) without any TD grabs.  Coats is a good blocker in the running game and he can also play fullback if the Giants need him to.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Giants have released Daniel Coats.

The New York Giants sign G/T Stacy Andrews

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 1:52 pm

The Giants have signed 30-year old G/T Stacy Andrews.  Andrews played in 13 games (12 starts) for the Seahawks last year.  He has now played in 85 games (46 starts) in his first 7 years in the NFL.  Andrews is a huge man at 6’7″, 340 pounds….so he certainly adds size to the Giants’ O-Line.  I think this was a good move for the Giants as I see him starting somewhere along the O-Line in 2011.

The New York Giants sign RB Andre Brown

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 2:17 pm

The Giants have signed 24-year old RB Andre Brown.  Brown played in 4 games (0 starts) in his rookie season last year and he carried the ball 2 times for -1 yard (-0.5 ypc).  Brown has well traveled as a rookie as he played for the Colts, Redskins, Panthers and Broncos.  Brown will be given a shot to win a backup job which means he will likely have to prove his worth on special teams in training camp and the pre-season.
