The Giants didn’t look too good once again last night in Baltimore.  Eli Manning started this game and he completed 9 of 18 passes for 63 yards with 1 INT.  Rhett Bomar finished up the game by completing 10 of 20 passes for 140 yards with 1 TD pass.  Brandon Jacobs (6 car, 41 yards) and Ahmad Bradshaw (7 car, 22 yards) led the way on the ground last night for the Giants.  Rookie WR Victor Cruz continues to amaze as he led the way in the passing game for the Giants with 4 grabs for 76 yards (19.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  WRs Steve Smith (4 rec, 48 yards) and Hakeem Nicks (4 rec, 26 yards) also helped out for the Giants in the air last night.  The Giants finished up with 76 yards rushing (4.0 ypc) and 185 yards passing last night.

Safety Antrel Rolle led a pretty poor Giants’ defensive effort last night with 7 tackles including 1 tackle for a loss.  DE/OLB Alex Hall and CB Bruce Johnson pitched in with 6 tackles apiece last night.  The Ravens finished up with 75 yards rushing (2.9 ypc) and 313 yards passing last night.  The Giants are now 1-2 on the pre-season.

Pittsburgh Steelers 24, New York Giants 17

This game had the potential to get ugly for the Giants with Eli Manning and Jim Sorgi not available due to injury.  That meant that Rhett Bomar had to play the whole game under center for the Giants.  He completed 13 of 26 passes for 167 yards with 1 INT.  But he also ran the ball 3 times for 21 yards (7.0 ypc) in this game.  Andre Brown led the way on the ground for the Giants in this game with 61 yards rushing on 13 carries (4.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Ahmad Bradshaw pitched in with 28 yards rushing on six carries (4.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  WRs Steve Smith (2 rec, 53 yards) and Victor Cruz (2 rec, 30 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Giants on Saturday Night.  The Giants finished up with 129 yards rushing (4.3 ypc) and 151 yards passing in this game.

The Giants’ D got pushed around quite a bit by the Steelers’ offense in this game.  Rookie 6th round pick (LB) Adrian Tracy led the way for the Giants in this game with 9 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss.  Safety John Busing pitched in with 7 tackles in this game for the Giants.  The Steelers finished up with 161 yards rushing (3.9 ypc) and 251 yards passing in this game.

The New York Giants lose Jim Sorgi for at least 2-3 weeks

The New York Giants will be without backup QB Jim Sorgi for the next 2-3 weeks due to a torn capsule and a partial dislocation in his right shoulder.  This really hurts the Giants for this weekend’s game against the Steelers as Eli Manning is also out due to his horrific forehead injury last week that required quite a few stiches to close.  That means that Rhett Bomar will likely play most of the game with Dominic Randolph getting some action despite just getting signed recently.  Bomar was effective in the Giants’ first pre-season game completing 6 of 7 passes for 67 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  But instead of going against Jets’ scrubs he will be dealing with the Steelers first and second team D.

New York Giants 31, New York Jets 16

The Giants really kicked butt offensively last night despite only having possession of the ball for 23:12.  Eli Manning started the game and he completed 4 of 8 passes for 77 yards.  He had to leave the game due to a big gash on his forehead which required 12 stitches to close.  Jim Sorgi followed Manning at QB and he was pretty good completing 8 of 15 passes for 146 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Rhett Bomar finished up the game for the Giants by completing 6 of 7 passes for 67 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 22 yards (11.0 ypc).  Andre Brown led the way on the ground for the Giants in this game with 26 yards rushing on 5 carries (5.2 ypc).  Brandon Jacobs (4 car, 1 yard, TD) and Ahmad Bradshaw (3 car, -1 yard and 2 rec, 58 yards) didn’t look their best last night against the Jets.  Undrafted rookie WR Victor Cruz was the star of the game last night for the Giants as he caught 6 passes for 145 yards (24.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  The Giants finished up with 63 yards rushing (3.0 ypc) and 290 yards passing lasst night.

Despite holding the Jets to 16 points the Giants D did not play very well.   LBs Gerris Wilkinson (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and Bryan Kiehl (7 tackles) led the way for the Giants last night on D.  CB D.J. Johnson pitched in with 5 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Safeties Sha’reff Rashad (4 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 INT) and Antrel Rolle (3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 INT (59-yard return) both had their moments last night for the Giants.  The Jets finished up with 83 yards rushing (3.0 ypc) and 279 passing yards last night.

The New York Giants need someone to step up on kickoff returns in 2010

The Giants will likely stage a battle between 26-year old WR Sinorice Moss and 25-year old running back Danny Ware to see who will return kickoffs for them in 2010.  Moss played in 8 games for the Giants last season and he returned 6 kickoffs for 109 yards (18.2 avg).  He has now played in 37 games in his 3 years with the Giants and he has returned 24 kickoffs for 465 yards (19.4 avg).  Moss is trying to hang on to his roster spot on the Giants and the best way for him to do that is to win the kickoff return job.  Danny Ware returned 2 kickoffs for 37 yards (18.5 avg) last season for the Giants.
