Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 23 September 2011 at 9:11 pm

The Giants have re-signed 28-year old WR Michael Clayton.  Clayton played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Giants last year and he caught 2 passes for 19 yards (9.5 avg).  He has now played in 90 games (56 starts) in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has caught 223 passes for 2,955 yards (13.3 avg) with 10 TD grabs.  Clayton has also carried the ball 18 times for 100 yards (5.6 ypc) without any TD runs in his career so far.  This was a good signing for the Giants as they are suffering a lot of injuries at WR with Domenik Hixon out for the year (torn ACL) and Mario Manningham nursing a concussion.

The New York Giants lose WR Domenik Hixon for the year

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 21 September 2011 at 8:29 pm

The Giants have lost 26-year old WR/PR/KR Domenik Hixon for the rest of the season due to a torn right ACL.  This was the second time in 15 months that Hixon has blown out his right knee.  He played in both of the Giants games this year and he caught 4 passes for 50 yards (12.5 avg) with an amazing TD grab last Monday Night.  Hixon also returned 3 punts for 31 yards (10.3 avg) this year.  Hixon has now played in 48 games in his first 5 years with the Giants and he has caught 63 passes for 838 yards (13.3 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  He has also returned 51 punts for 561 yards (11.0 avg) with 1 TD return and 80 kickoffs for 1,966 yards (24.6 avg) with 1 TD return.  This is a big blow to the Giants as they were depending on Hixon to be the #3 WR in 2011.

The New York Giants sign WR Brandon Stokley

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 2:17 am

The Giants have signed 35-year old WR Brandon Stokley.  Stokley played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks last year and he caught 31 passes for 354 yards (11.4 avg) with 0 TD grabs.  He has now played in 129 games (35 starts) in his first 12 years in the NFL and he has caught 338 passes for 4,673 yards (13.8 avg) with 34 TD grabs.  This is a good signing for the Giants.  They might be without Hakeem Nicks against the Rams.  Even if Nicks plays, Stokley could the the Giants’ #3 WR on Monday Night, as Victor Cruz did nothing in the season opener against the Redskins last weekend.

The New York Giants lose LB Jonathan Goff for the year

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 6 September 2011 at 10:37 pm

The Giants have lost 25-year old inside linebacker Jonathan Goff for the 2011 season due to a torn ACL.  Goff played in all 16 games for the Giants last year and he had 80 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  Goff has now played in 37 games in his first 3 years in the NFL and he has 107 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 4 passes defensed and 1 interception.  This injury is the latest blow to a Giants’ defense that looks like it’s going to have some big time issues stopping opposing teams in 2011.

The New York Giants cut return man Darius Reynaud

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 8:19 pm

The Giants have released 25-year old PR/KR Darius Reynaud.  Reynaud played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Giants last year and he returned 23 punts for 132 yards (5.7 avg).  He also returned 21 kickoffs for 386 yards (18.4 avg) last year.  The Giants have much better options than Reynaud to return kicks and punts in 2011, so they won’t miss him at all.

The New York Giants place Sage Rosenfels on I.R.

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 7:51 pm

The Giants have placed 33-year old QB Sage Rosenfels on the Injured Reserve List due to a back injury.  Rosenfels played in 12 games (0 starts) in his first season with the Giants but he didn’t throw any passes.  He was the holder on kicks.  David Carr will replace Rosenfels in 2011 as the Giants’ #2 QB and he should be able to do a good job if he’s needed.

The New York Giants release OL Ike Ndukwe

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 7:50 pm

The Giants have released 29-year old offensive lineman Ike Ndukwe.  Ndukwe played in all 4 preseason games for the Giants.  He didn’t play in any games in the NFL last year.  Ndukwe played in 33 games (18 starts) in his first 5 years in the NFL.  This is a good sign for the Giants’ O-Line that they didn’t think they needed Ndukwe in 2011.

The New York Giants release DE Alex Hall

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 7:48 pm

The Giants have released 26-year old DE Alex Hall.  Hall played in 2 games for the Giants last year and he had 1 tackle.  He has played in 32 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 39 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Giants as Hall didn’t show them much last year.

The New York Giants release punter Matt Dodge

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 6:25 pm

The Giants have released 24-year old punter Matt Dodge.  Dodge played in all 16 games as a rookie for the Giants last year and he punted the ball 72 times for 3,222 yards (44.8 avg).  He also had 9 touchbacks (12.5%) and he pinned the opposing team inside their own 20 yard line 20 times (27.8%).  Dodge also had 3 tackles, 1 of his punts was blocked and he gave up a TD return to Desean Jackson when head coach Tom Coughlin instructed him to kick the ball out of bounds.  That blunder cost the Giants a big win and a possible playoff spot.  Dodge was beaten out by veteran Steve Weatherford for the punting job.  This is a case of addition by subtraction for the Giants.

The New York Giants have placed Brian Jackson on I.R.

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 5:25 pm

The Giants have placed 24-year old CB Brian Jackson on the Injured Reserve List due to a back injury.  Jackson played in 12 games as a rookie for the Giants last year and he had 9 tackles.  The Giants keep losing DBs like crazy.  This is a bad break for Jackson as he could have gotten some serious P.T. in 2011.
