The New York Giants are sending two players to the Pro Bowl

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Pro Bowl by admin on Thursday 29 December 2011 at 4:38 pm

The Giants are going to be sending 30-year old QB Eli Manning and 22-year old DE Jason Pierre-Paul to the Pro Bowl.  Manning has played in 15 games for the Giants so far this year and he has completed 335 of 556 passes (60.3%) for 4,587 yards with 26 TD passes and 16 INTs (90.3 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 29 times for 1 yard (0.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  This has been Manning’s best year of his NFL career, by far, in my mind.  Jason Pierre-Paul has been a beast in his second season in the NFL.  He has played in 15 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 81 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 8 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles and 6 passes defensed.

The New York Giants lose safety Kenny Phillips for a while

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 6 December 2011 at 3:42 am

The Giants will be without 25-year old safety Kenny Phillips for the next 1-2 weeks due to a left MCL sprain.  Phillips has played in 11 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 66 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 1 tackle for a loss.  32-year old Deon Grant will replace Phillips in the starting lineup until he’s ready to return to action.  Grant has played in 12 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 48 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception, 1 sack and 1 tackle for a loss.  Grant should be able to do a solid job until Phillips is ready to return to action.

The New York Giants lose Osi Umenyiora for the next 2-4 weeks

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at 10:04 pm

The Giants have lost 30-year old DE Osi Umenyiora for the next 2-4 weeks due to a badly sprained ankle.  He has played in 8 games for the Giants this year and he has 23 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  Umenyiora has now played in 112 games in his first 8 years with the Giants and he has 331 tackles, 67 sacks, 23 tackles for a loss, 30 forced fumbles, 13 fumble recoveries and 12 passes defensed.  The Giants are going to miss Umenyiora’s playmaking ability while he’s out of action.

The New York Giants lose LT William Beatty indefinitely

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 2:26 am

The New York Giants have lost 26-year old LT William Beatty indefinitely as he will have surgery tomorrow to repair a detached retina in his right eye.  He has played in 10 games (all starts) for the Giants this year.  He has now played in 34 games (16 starts) in his first three years with the Giants.  30-year old Stacy Andrews will likely replace Beatty in the starting lineup at LT.  Andrews has played in 8 games (2 starts) for the Giants so far this year.  He has played in 93 games (48 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL.  He might actually wind up being an upgrade over Beatty.

UPDATE:  David Diehl will move from left guard to left tackle to block on Eli Manning’s blind side.

UPDATE II:  (11/30/2011) – The Giants have placed William Beatty on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season.

The New York Giants will likely be without Ahmad Bradshaw for a while

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 3 November 2011 at 7:19 pm

The Giants are going to likely be without starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw for a while he has a cracked bone in one of his feet.  Bradshaw has played in 7 games (all starts) for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 111 times for 440 yards (4.0 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 24 passes for 210 yards (8.8 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  Brandon Jacobs will likely take over as the featured back for the Giants.  He has played in 5 games for the Giants so far this year and he has carried the ball 42 times for 126 yards (3.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Jacobs has also caught 5 passes for 59 yards (11.8 avg) with 1 TD grab so far this year.  He is more than capable of handling a heavy workload while Bradshaw is out of action.  D.J. Ware will likely also move up on the depth chart.  He has played in 7 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 14 carries for 45 yards (3.2 ypc) and he has also caught 4 passes for 32 yards (8.0 avg).  He will likely step up for the Giants as he is a solid back.

The New York Giants will be without DT Jimmy Kennedy for a while

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 12 October 2011 at 1:29 pm

The Giants will be without 31-year old DT Jimmy Kennedy for the next four weeks due to him testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.  Kennedy has played in all five games for the Giants this year and he has 4 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  This will hurt the depth of the D-Line, but the Giants should be o.k. without him.

The New York Giants release CB Brian Williams

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 6:28 pm

The Giants have released 32-year old cornerback Brian Williams.  Williams played in all four games for the Giants this year and he had 1 tackle.  He has played in 132 games in his first 10 years in the NFL and he has 501 tackles, 5 sacks, 23 tackles for a loss, 9 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 74 passes defensed and 19 interceptions (one returned for a TD).  This might be the end of the line for Williams as a NFL player.

The New York Giants release two players

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 12:52 pm

The Giants have released 33-year old QB Sage Rosenfels off the Injured Reserve List (back injury) and 35-year old WR Brandon Stokley (with an injury settlement).  Rosenfels played in 12 games for the Giants last year  and he didn’t throw any passes while carrying the ball 3 times for -3 yards (-1.0 ypc).  Rosenfels’ back is starting to feel better, so he wanted a chance to hook on with another team this year.  Stokley played in 2 games for the Giants this year and he caught 1 pass for 7 yards.  He has a quad injury.  The Giants shouldn’t miss either of these two guys.

The New York Giants sign CB Justin Tryon

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 1:40 am

The Giants have signed 27-year old cornerback Justin Tryon.  Tryon played in 3 games earlier this year for the Colts and he had 7 tackles.  Tryon has now played in 44 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 82 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, 10 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was a good signing for the Giants as they need all the help they can get at cornerback.

Mario Manningham is cleared to return to action with the New York Giants

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Monday 26 September 2011 at 10:01 pm

25-year old WR Mario Manningham has been cleared to return to action after missing yesterday’s game with the Eagles due to a concussion.  Manningham has played in 2 games for the Giants so far this year and he has caught 7 passes for 105 yards (15.0 avg).  This is good news for the Giants, as Manningham will give the Giants a very solid top three at WR along with Hakeem Nicks and the suddenly red hot Victor Cruz.
