New York Jets 17, New York Giants 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Pre-Season by admin on Tuesday 30 August 2011 at 5:47 pm

The Giants got pushed around last night by the Jets.  Eli Manning looked like he didn’t want to play last night as he completed 15 of 30 passes for 200 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  David Carr was even worse as he completed 5 of 12 passes for 36 yards without a TD pass or INT.  Brandon Jacobs led the way on the ground for the Giants last night with 51 yards on 10 carries (5.1 ypc) before he was ejected from the game for fighting with a Jets’ defender.  Danny Ware pitched in with 37 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.6 ypc) and 3 catches for 24 yards (8.0 avg).  WRs Hakeem Nicks (5 rec, 71 yards) and Mario Manningham (3 rec, 36 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Giants.  The Giants finished up with 105 yards rushing on 25 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 42 passes (47.6%) for 222 yards.

The defense actually played pretty darn well for the Giants last night.  LB Michael Boley led the way for the Giants’ D last night with 7 tackles.  Safety Tyler Sash (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and LB Clint Sintim (6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery) also had solid games for the Giants.  The Jets finished up with 112 yards rushing on 38 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 22 passes (59.1%) for 121 yards.  The Giants are now 1-2 on the preseason.

The New York Giants expect to have a very solid running game once again in 2011

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Positional Previews by admin on Thursday 25 August 2011 at 5:23 pm

The New York Giants are three deep in solid RBs, so the running game will likely be hitting on all cylinders in 2011.  25-year old Ahmad Bradshaw tested the free agent market before re-signing with the Giants.  He will be the main back in the running attack in 2011.  Bradshaw played in 16 games (11 starts) for the Giants last year and he carried the ball 276 times for 1,235 yards (4.5 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  He also caught 47 passes for 314 yards (6.7 avg) last year.  Bradshaw will be kept fresh once again this year by Brandon Jacobs.  Bradshaw has now played in 58 games (12 starts) in his first four years with the Giants and he has carried the ball 529 times for 2,558 yards (4.8 ypc) with 17 TD runs.  He also has caught 75 passes for 575 yards (7.7 avg) with 1 TD grab so far in his NFL career.

29-year old Brandon Jacobs is a battering ram who gives the Giants a different look when he’s on the field.  Jacobs played in 16 games (5 starts) for the Giants last year and he carried the ball 147 times for 823 yards (5.6 ypc) with 9 TD runs.  He also caught 7 passes for 59 yards (8.4 avg) last year.  Jacobs can handle a heavy workload if something happens to Bradshaw.  He wears down defenses when he’s on the field as he takes the fight to them.  Jacobs has now played in 86 games (42 starts) in his first six years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 926 times for 4,278 yards (4.6 ypc) with 49 TD carries.  Jacobs has also caught 65 passes for 602 yards (9.3 avg) with 3 TD grabs in his career.

26-year old Danny Ware played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Giants last year and he carried the ball 20 times for 73 yards (3.7 ypc).  He also caught 7 passes for 67 yards (9.6 avg) last year.  Ware is a very capable RB and he will likely step up if either Bradshaw or Jacobs get injured in 2011.  Ware has now played in 29 games (0 starts) in parts of four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 35 times for 161 yards (4.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He has also caught 10 passes for 82 yards (8.2 avg) in his NFL career.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE GIANTS RBS IN 2011:  A

David Carr is pushing Sage Rosenfels for the back QB for the New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Pre-Season by admin on Thursday 25 August 2011 at 5:13 pm

Sage Rosenfels was the backup QB for the Giants in 2011 and he has looked pretty decent so far in the pre-season.  Rosenfels has completed 13 of 19 passes (68.4%) for 129 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs (87.4 QB Rating) during the pre-season.  David Carr has been electric so far in the pre-season though, so he is pushing Rosenfels for his spot on the depth chart.  Carr has completed 9 of 11 passes (81.8%) for 84 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs (138.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 1 time for 17 yards.  It will be interesting to see how this competition shakes out.  Either way, the Giants have to be very pleased with the depth that they have at QB heading into the 2011 season.

The New York Giants sign CB Brian Williams

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 25 August 2011 at 2:48 pm

The Giants have signed 32-year old cornerback Brian Williams.  Williams played in all 16 games for the Falcons last year and he had 36 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 fumble recovery.  He has now played in 128 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has 500 tackles, 5 sacks, 21 tackles for a loss, 9 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 74 passes defensed and 19 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  After a rash of injuries at cornerback, the Giants did well to find a veteran with as much experience as Williams.

The New York Giants sign DT Jimmy Kennedy

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 9:50 pm

The Giants have signed 31-year old DT Jimmy Kennedy.  Kennedy played in 9 games for the Vikings last year and he had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1/2 a sack.  Kennedy has now played in 86 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 125 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 5 passes defensed and 17 tackles for a loss.  It was slim pickings on the free agency market at DT, so the Giants did the best they could by bringing in an experienced guy like Kennedy.

The New York Giants lose rookie DT Marvin Austin for the season

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,The Draft Report by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 9:42 pm

The Giants have lost 22-year old rookie DT Marvin Austin for the entire 2011 season due to a torn left pectoral muscle.  This is another blow to the Giants’ defense as they had high hopes for Austin, starting this year.  They took him in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft last April out of North Carolina.  The Giants hope that Austin will pay attention to what goes on in his rookie year, as he would do well to learn as much as he can before he takes the field in 2012.

The New York Giants lose CB Brian Witherspoon for the season

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 9:39 pm

The Giants have lost 26-year old CB Brian Witherspoon for the 2011 season due to an ACL tear.  Witherspoon played in 1 game for the Giants last year but he didn’t make any tackles.  He has played in 22 games in his first 3 years in the NFL and he has 16 tackles.  This will really hurt the depth for the Giants at corner as they are falling down like flies.

The New York Giants lose CB Terrell Thomas for the season

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 1:24 pm

The New York Giants will be without 26-year old CB Terrell Thomas for the rest of the season as he tore his right ACL in last night’s game against the Bears.  This is a gigantic blow to the Giants’ D as Thomas is a pretty darn good corner.  Thomas played in all 16 games for the Giants last year and he had 101 tackles, 1 sack, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 4 tackles for a loss, 5 interceptions and 21 passes defensed.  Thomas has now played in 44 games in his first three years with the Giants and he has 231 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 38 passes defensed and 11 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  The Giants are going to likely have big time issues in the secondary as they will try to cover for Thomas in 2011 and that won’t be easy.

New York Giants 41, Chicago Bears 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Pre-Season by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 1:19 pm

The New York Giants punched the Bears in the mouth repeatedly last night.  Eli Manning was so-so as he completed 8 of 16 passes for 78 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs.  David Carr was razor sharp last night as he completed 9 of 11 passes for 84 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 17 yards last night.  RB Da’Rel Scott only carried the ball 1 time last night and all he did with it was score on a 97 yard run!  Brandon Jacobs pitched in with 48 yards rushing on 6 carries (8.0 ypc) with 1 TD run last night.  Danny Ware pitched in with 23 yards rushing on 6 carries (3.8 ypc) with 1 TD run.  WRs Victor Cruz (3 rec, 40 yards) and Mario Manningham (4 rec, 39 yards) led the way for the Giants in the passing game last night.  TE Daniel Coats (1 rec, 17 yards, TD) and WR Domenik Hixon (2 rec, 13 yards, TD) also pitched in with big plays for the Giants last night.  The Giants finished up with 218 yards on 27 carries (8.1 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 27 passes (63%) for 162 yards last night.

The defense was in bend but don’t break mode last night.  LB Spencer Paysinger (8 tackles) and CB Michael Coe (6 tackles) led the way for the defense last night.  Undrafted rookie linebacker Mark Herzlich pitched in with 3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  The Bears finished up with 81 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 49 passes (59.2%) for 333 yards last night.  The Giants are now 1-1 on the pre-season.

The New York Giants lose DE Osi Umenyiora for a while

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Saturday 20 August 2011 at 4:05 am

The New York Giants will be without 29-year old DE Osi Umenyiora for the next 4-6 weeks after undergoing knee surgery earlier today.  Umenyiora played in all 16 games for the Giants last year and he had 48 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 passes defensed and 2 tackles for a loss.  This is a big blow to the Giants as Umenyiora was one of the best DEs in the entire NFL last year.
