The New York Giants place Will Blackmon on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 31 December 2010 at 11:29 pm

The New York Giants have placed CB/KR/PR Will Blackmon on I.R. ending his year due to a knee problem.  Blackmon played in 5 games for the Giants this season working mostly on special teams as he only had 2 tackles this year.  Blackmon also returned 13 kickoffs for 238 yards (18.3 avg) and 14 punts for 94 yards (6.7 avg).  The Giants won’t miss him the rest of the season and he has likely played his last game for them.

Green Bay Packers 45, New York Giants 17

The Giants got completely destroyed at Lambeau Field yesterday as both the offfense and defense sucked!  Eli Manning was awful as he completed 17 of 33  passes for 301 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 INTs.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 12 yards yesterday.  Brandon Jacobs led the way on the ground for the Giants in this game with 47 yards on 8 carries (5.9 ypc) but he lost a fumble.  Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 31 yards on 12 carries (2.6 ypc) but he also caught 5 passes for 41 yards (8.2 avg).  Bradshaw also lost a fumble in this game. WRs Mario Manningham (4 rec, 132 yards, TD) and Hakeem Nicks (4 rec, 93 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Giants.  The Giants finished up with 90 yards rushing on 21 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 33 passes for 296 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 22:59.

The defense was absolutely pathetic yesterday for the Giants!  Safety Kenny Phillips (10 tackles), LB Jonathan Goff (9 tackles) and DE Justin Tuck (7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 2 QB hits) came to play a bit but no one else on the D did.  The Packers finished up with 119 yards rushing on 35 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 37 passes for 396 yards.  The Giants are now 9-6 on the season and they need a win and help next weekend to make the playoffs.

New York Giants (9-5) vs. Green Bay Packers (8-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 24 December 2010 at 4:16 pm

The Giants suffered a devastating loss last weekend to the Eagles which snapped a three game winning streak.  The Packers have lost two games in a row but they now have Aaron Rodgers back in action.  Both teams need this game desperately if they want to make the playoffs.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Giants have the ball:  The Giants are likely going to come out running the ball with Ahmad Bradshaw & Brandon Jacobs against a Packers’ D that is allowing 117.0 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  The Packers have 40 sacks and 18 interceptions this season so Eli Manning is going to have to get rid of the ball quickly while not making mistakes and that could be a tall order.  The Packers are likely going to double cover Hakeem Nicks but Mario Manningham & Kevin Boss have stepped up lately so they should be o.k.

When the Packers have the ball:  The Packers are likely going to come out throwing short passes and running the ball with Brandon Jackson who really stepped up last weekend.  Rodgers will likely spread the ball around to Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, James Jones and Jordy Nelson in the passing game if he has time to throw it as the Giants have 42 sacks this year.  Brandon Jackson will be taking aim at the front seven of the Giants’ D which is allowing 102.4 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.

PREDICTION:  PACKERS 28, GIANTS 23

The New York Giants lose Dave Tollefson for a while

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 24 December 2010 at 5:15 am

The New York Giants will be without DE Dave Tollefson for the next 2-4 weeks due to a MCL sprain.  Tollefson has played in 13 games for the Giants so far this year and he has 20 tackles, 1/2 a sack, 3 passes defensed and he has forced 3 fumbles.  Tollefson has now played in 47 games in his first four years with the Giants and he has 60 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.  Tollefson’s injury will hurt the Giants’ depth along the D-Line.

Philadelphia Eagles 38, New York Giants 31

The Giants had an EPIC MELTDOWN last Sunday at home against the Eagles.  The Giants were up 31-10 with only 8:17 left in this game and that’s when things went south.  Michael Vick threw 2 TD passes and he ran for a TD to tie the game up with 1:45 left in the game.  The Giants then got stopped and forced to punt the ball with mere seconds left on the clock.  Tom Coughlin wanted rookie punter Matt Dodge to kick the ball out of bounds but instead he kicked it right to DeSean Jackson who returned it 65 yards for a TD as time expired!

Eli Manning had a great game last Sunday as he completed 23 of 39 passes for 289 yards with 4 TD passes and 1 INT.  Ahmad Bradshaw led the ball on the ground with 66 yards rushing on 19 carries (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 14 yards (7.0 avg).  Brandon Jacobs pitched in with 34 yards rushing on 12 carries (2.8 ypc) in this game.  Mario Manningham (8 rec, 113 yards, 2 TDs), Hakeem Nicks (6 rec, 63 yards, TD) and Kevin Boss (3 rec, 59 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Giants.  The Giants finished up with 100 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 39 passes for 264 yards.

The defense was great for 3 quarters and 6 minutes in this game and then they sucked!  DE Justin Tuck led the way for the Giants’ D in this game with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and 3 QB hits.  Safety Kenny Phillips (4 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries) and CB Corey Webster (interception) also helped out on D in this game.  The Eagles finished up with 197 yards rushing on 21 carries (9.4 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 35 passes for 221 yards.  The Giants are now 1 game behind the Eagles in the NFC East with a 9-5 record.

Philadelphia Eagles (9-4) vs. New York Giants (9-4)

The Giants have won three games in a row since losing to the Eagles.  In those games, the Giants outscored opponents 76-30!  The Eagles are 2-1 since the last meeting with the Giants and they are tied atop the NFC East making this a must win game for both teams.  Here is a look a the matchups in this game:

When the Giants have the ball:  With the Eagles losing starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley and starting a 7th round pick (Jamar Chaney), the Giants are going to tighten up the chinstraps and run the football.  Brandon Jacobs & Ahmad Bradshaw will likely get a lot of yards rushing against a Eagles’ D that is giving up 4.1 yards per carry so far this year.  If the Giants can protect Eli Manning and they get a running game going……he’s going to have a big game.  But, if Manning is under constant pressure he’s going to make some big mistakes this Sunday.

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are likely going to try to run the ball a little more than usual with Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick doing most of the damage.  The Giants have to contain Vick in the pocket while putting a lot of pressure on him so he can’t just sit back and bomb away.  Vick is nowhere near as good of a QB as he has shown this year so I think he has a 4 turnover game in him and it might just happen this Sunday in New Jersey.

PREDICTION:  GIANTS 30, EAGLES 27

The New York Giants lose Steve Smith for the rest of the year

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 15 December 2010 at 10:18 pm

The Giants have placed 25-year old WR Steve Smith on the Injured Reserve List due to impending knee surgery.  Smith played in 9 games for the Giants this year and he caught 48 passes for 529 yards (11.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He has now played in 46 games in his first four years for the Giants and he has caught 220 passes for 2,386 yards (10.8 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  This is a huge blow to the Giants as Smith was Eli Manning’s favorite receiver on the short stuff.  The Giants will likely expand TE Kevin Boss’ role the rest of the season in the passing game.

The New York Giants lose Clint Sintim for the year

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 15 December 2010 at 4:31 am

The New York Giants have placed 24-year old linebacker Clint Sintim on I.R. with a torn ACL.  Sintim played in 13 games for the Giants this year and he had 13 tackles.  Sintim has now played in 24 games in his first two years with the Giants and he has 33 tackles and 1 sack.  This injury will hurt the Giants’ depth at linebacker and on special teams.

New York Giants 21, Minnesota Vikings 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Tuesday 14 December 2010 at 2:17 pm

The Giants completely dominated the Vikings on both sides of the football last night.  Eli Manning was not at his best as he completed 22 of 37 passes for 187 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  Brandon Jacobs led the way on the ground for the Giants in this game with 14 carries for 116 yards (8.3 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Ahmad Bradshaw also had a solid game with 11 carries for 103 yards (9.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 5 passes for 12 yards (2.4 avg) last night.  WR Hakeem Nicks (7 rec, 96 yards) and TE Kevin Boss (4 rec, 23 yards, TD) led the way through the air for the Giants in this game.  The Giants finished up with 213 yards rushing on 28 carries (7.6 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 37 passes for 182 yards as they had possession of the ball for 32:42.

Defensively the Giants shut the Vikings’ offense down in a vice.  CB Terrell Thomas (7 tackles, 2 passes defensed), LB Jonathan Goff (6 tackles, 1/2 a sack, 1 tackle for a loss and 2 QB hits) and LB Keith Bulluck (INT) led the way for the Giants on D last night.  The Vikings finished up with 61 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 35 passes for 103 yards.  The Giants improve to 9-4 on the season as they are tied up with the Eagles in atop the NFC East and they play this weekend.

New York Giants (8-4) vs. Minnesota Vikings (5-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 10 December 2010 at 7:02 pm

The Giants and Vikings are both on two game winning streaks.  The Giants are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East so they need this game big time.  The Vikings are pretty much playing for pride at this point in the season but new head coach Leslie Frazier has been inspiring his troops.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Giants have the ball:  The Giants have been running the ball a lot as of late.  That is likely the gameplan with Brandon Jacobs & Ahmad Bradshaw both getting a lot of work against a Vikings’ D that is only allowing 92.0 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.  The Giants hope they have success running the ball because Eli Manning doesn’t have a lot of weapons to use in the passing game.  Kevin Boss will likely be Eli Manning’s favorite target as he doesn’t have many weapons to use against a Vikings’ D that is allowing 210.2 yards passing per game.

When the Vikings have the ball:  It’s hard to see Brett Favre starting this weekend due to the shoulder injury he suffered last weekend.  No matter who plays QB for the Vikings, they are going to run the ball.  Adrian Peterson will take aim at a Giants’ D that is allowing 98.0 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry.  If the Giants stop the Vikings’ running game, the Vikes could be in some trouble.  The Giants must pay special attention to Vikings’ WR Sidney Rice who was excellent last weekend against the Bills.
