The New York Giants lose linebacker Michael Boley

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 7 October 2009 at 3:19 pm

The Giants have lost starting linebacker Michael Boley for the next 4 weeks after he underwent surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his right knee.  He played in 3 games for the Giants this season and he made 15 tackles, defensed 2 passes, has 1 sack and he has 4 tackles for a loss.  Chase Blackburn will likely replace him in the starting lineup.  Blackburn has played in 4 games for the Giants so far and he has 11 tackles and 1/2 a sack.  The Giants will miss Boley’s ability to make big, game changing plays.

The Giants dominated another inferior team on Sunday afternoon in K.C.  The Giants were leading this game 27-3 in the 4th quarter before calling off the dogs.  Eli Manning completed 20 of 34 passes for 292 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 INT.  He left the game late in the 4th quarter with a injured heel.  David Carr finished up the game but he didn’t complete any passes (2 attempts).  Brandon Jacobs led the way on the ground for the Giants with 92 yards on 21 carries (4.4 ypc).  Ahmad Bradshaw pitched in with 64 yards rushing on 12 carries (5.3 ypc).  Steve Smith had another outstanding game for the Giants catching 11 passes for 134 yards (12.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Rookie WR Hakeem Nicks only caught 1 pass but he made it count as it went for a 54-yard TD.  The Giants finished up with 429 total yards of offense in this game (156 passing, 273 passing).

The defense was outstanding for the Giants in this game.  Linebacker Michael Boley was all over the place for the Giants as he made 5 tackles, had a sack, he had 4 tackles for a loss, he defensed 2 passes and he hit the QB once.  The Chiefs finished up with 193 total yards on offense (105 rushing, 88 passing) in this game.  The Giants are now 4-0 on the season sitting atop the NFC East.

New York Giants vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 2 October 2009 at 8:40 pm

The Giants will likely come out just like they did last week.  They will try to control the clock with the running game and then punch the Chiefs in the mouth through the air.  The Chiefs are allowing 119.3 yards rushing per game but only 3.8 yards per carry so Brandon Jacobs (196 yards rushing) and Ahmad Bradshaw (201 yards rushing) will likely be fighting for every yard on Sunday.  But they can handle that.  WRs Steve Smith and Mario Manningham match up very well with the Chiefs’ secondary which is allowing 243.0 yards passing per game this season.  Eli Manning should have time to throw the ball as he has only been sacked 1 time this season while the Chiefs only have 3 sacks on the year.

The Giants only gave up 86 total yards last week against the Bucs.  But they have given up 142.0 yards rushing per game and 6.1 yards per carry so the Chiefs should really consider giving Larry Johnson and Jamaal Charles a lot of work in this game.  If the Chiefs get a running game going in this game that will give Matt Cassel a chance to use some play action passes down the field.  It all depends on if Dwayne Bowe is ready to play or not.  If he does Cassel will have a big target down the field.  If Bowe doesn’t play the Giants will probably double Bobby Wade and make the Chiefs beat them with Mark Bradley.

PREDICTION:  GIANTS 27, CHIEFS 13

Steve Smith is on a roll with the New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 2 October 2009 at 8:40 am

The Giants came into this season with no true #1 WR but Steve Smith is trying to change that.  He has caught 23 passes for 277 yards (12.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs this season.  When Eli Manning is in trouble he looks for Smith just like he used to do with the now jailed Plaxico Burress.  Smith doesn’t have Burress’ size but he’s faster and has a better set of hands.

Ahmad Bradshaw has been outstanding for the New York Giants this season

Coming into this season the Giants were hopeful that Ahmad Bradshaw would be able to replace Derrick Ward who left as a free agent.  He has replaced Ward and been so much more for the Giants as he is the leading rusher on the team right now.  He has carried the ball 35 times for 201 yards (5.7 ypc) and he has also caught 5 passes for 19 yards (3.8 avg).  Bradshaw is also the punt returner for the Giants as he has returned 6 punts for 55 yards (9.2 avg) this year.  Teaming Bradshaw who is a true threat to score every time he touches the football with battering ram Brandon Jacobs makes the Giants’ running game even more deadly than last season.
