Eli Manning led the Giants on a drive late in this game that resulted in a Lawrence Tynes 37-yard field goal as time expired to win the game.  Eli Manning was sharp last night as he completed 25 of 38 passes for 330 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions.  The ground game came alive in the 2nd half of the game to give the Giants some balance on offense.  Brandon Jacobs finished up with a hard fought 58 yards on 16 carries (3.6 ypc).  Ahmad Bradshaw pitched in with 37 yards rushing on 9 carries (4.1 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 8 yards.  WR Mario Manningham had a breakout game for the Giants last night as he caught 10 passes for 150 yards with a outstanding TD grab.  Steve Smith was also outstanding for the Giants last night catching 10 passes for 134 yards with a TD.  The Giants controlled the clock for 34:49 of the game last night as they finished up with 427 total yards on offense (97 rushing, 330 passing).

The defense played well against the pass but they just couldn’t stop the Cowboys’ explosive running game.  The Cowboys finished up this game with 378 total yards on offense (251 rushing, 127 passing).  LB Michael Boley (7 tackles) and S Kenny Phillips (7 tackles, 2 interceptions) led the way for the Giants’ D last night.  CB Bruce Johnson didn’t make any tackles in this game but he intercepted a pass that he returned 34 yards for a TD.

The Giants move to 2-0 on the season with a huge division win last night over the Cowboys on the road.

New York Giants to battle Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big G-Men News, This Week's Matchup Report by Andrew on Saturday 19 September 2009 at 5:39 pm

The New York Giants are going to be the first opponent for the Dallas Cowboys in their new $1.15 billion stadium.  The Giants are looking to build off their week one win over the Washington Redskins and want to be the first team to win in the Cowboys new home.

The Giants defense was great last week, as they forced two turnovers and had three sacks.  The offense played well with quarterback Eli Manning spreading the ball around, hitting seven different receivers and threw for 256 yards with one touchdown and one interception..  The Cowboys defense was very weak in their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so look for the Giants to have a lot of success offensively.

This will most likely be shoot-out, as the Dallas offense is fully loaded and quarterback Tony Romo looked great in week one.  I think the Cowboys defense is too weak though, and I think the Giants are going to win this one.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Giants 38, Cowboys 34

Mario Manningham is stepping up for the New York Giants

Blogged under Steppin Up, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 18 September 2009 at 8:37 am

23-year old WR Mario Manningham is off to a good start for the Giants.  He caught 3 passes for 58 yards (19.3 avg) with a TD grab against the Redskins.  His first game was a huge improvement over his rookie season last year when he played in 7 games and caught 4 passes for 26 yards (6.5 avg).  It would be a huge lift to the Giants offense if Manningham continues to play well as they will be without 1st round pick Hakeem Nicks for a while.

The New York Giants claim Gartrell Johnson off waivers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big G-Men News, General by admin on Thursday 17 September 2009 at 1:07 am

The Giants have claimed rookie running back Gartrell Johnson off waivers from the Chargers.  He was a 4th round pick out of Colorado State.  Johnson was the leading rusher this pre-season for the Chargers and it was a surprise that he was cut.  Johnson carried the ball 48 times for 184 yards (3.8 ypc) this pre-season.  He also caught 7 passes for 57 yards (8.1 avg) for the Chargers.  Johnson will get the chance to battle for the #3 RB job with Danny Ware down with a injury.

The New York Giants lose a couple of players

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by admin on Tuesday 15 September 2009 at 11:01 am

The Giants will be without backup running back Danny Ware for at least the next two weeks after he dislocated his elbow in the game against the Redskins.  Ware didn’t carry the ball in this game but he did return a kickoff 17 yards.  Ware was the #3 RB on the Giants’ depth chart.  Rookie WR Hakeem Nicks will miss the next 2-3 weeks with a short flexor ligament strain.  Nicks was hurt in his NFL debut after catching 2 passes for 18 yards.  This really hurts the offensive depth of the Giants.
