2. (60) William Beatty, OT

The Giants selected William Beatty in the 2nd round but they will have to coach him up.  Both of Beatty’s parents are pastors which has made him into too nice of a guy.  It will be interesting to see if Coach Coughlin can get Beatty fired up enough to reach his potential in the NFL.  Beatty is 6′6″, 291 pounds so he could stand to add some bulk to his frame.  Beatty played in 38 games (34 starts) in his 4-year career at U Conn.  Beatty looks like he will be a developmental project for the Giants.

2. (45) Clint Sintim, OLB

The Giants have drafted another pass rusher in outside linebacker Clint Sintim who could just make opposing QBs more nervous when playing them.  Sintim is 6′2″, 249 and he runs a 4.7 40.  Sintim played in 49 games (all starts) in his career at Virginia and he made 245 tackles, had 43 tackles for a loss, made 27 sacks and he broke up three passes.  Sintim should fit right in with the Giants’ aggressive, blitzing style of defense.

1. (29) Hakeem Nicks, WR

The New York Giants drafted WR Hakeem Nicks in the first round and will give him every opportunity to replace the departed Plaxico Burress in the starting lineup in 2009.  Nick is a big guy at 6′0″, 210 pounds but he’s not a speed burner running a 4.55 40.  Nicks is very aggressive with the ball in the air as he catches the football away from his body.  Nicks played in 36 games (34 starts) in his three seasons with North Carolina and he caught 181 passes for 2,840 yards (15.7 avg) with 21 TD grabs.  This was a outstanding pick for the Giants as Nicks should fill a big need for the Giants.

The New York Giants claim OT Andrew Carnahan off waivers from the Chiefs

The Giants have claimed 6′7″, 306 pound Andrew Carnahan off waivers from the Chiefs.  He did not play as a rookie but the Giants like his size and will give him a chance in training camp to earn a roster spot.  This was a good low risk move for the Giants who can just cut him if he doesn’t work out.

The New York Giants cut Plaxico Burress

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big G-Men News, General by admin on Friday 3 April 2009 at 8:32 pm

The Giants have cut 31-year old WR Plaxico Burress due to his ongoing legal troubles.  Burress played in 10 games last season for the Giants and he caught 35 passes for 454 yards (13.0 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  In Burress’ four year career with the Giants he has played in 57 games in which he has caught 244 passes for 3,681 yards (15.1 avg) with 33 TD grabs.  The Giants just felt that the off field distractions that Burress brings to the team outweighed his effectiveness on the field.  Burress has played in 128 games in his NFL career to date catching 505 passes for 7,845 yards (15.5 avg) with 55 TD grabs.  Someone will likely take a chance on Burress in the future when his legal problems disappear.
