The New York Giants got ambushed by the Cleveland Browns last night.  Eli Manning looked like a deer in headlights as he completed 18 of 28 passes for 196 yards with 1 TD pass and 3 interceptions.  The Giants should have stuck to the ground game a little bit more as the running backs were very effective last night.  Derrick Ward rushed for 101 yards on 10 carries (10.1 ypc) last night and Brandon Jacobs rushed for 67 yards on 14 carries (4.8 ypc) with a TD run.  Steve Smith was the leading receiver last night for the Giants with 9 grabs for 94 yards (10.4 avg).  Plaxico Burress also had a decent game catching 4 passes for 58 yards (14.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Giants finished up last night with 181 yards rushing on 25 carries (7.2 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 28 passes for 192 yards.

The defense was awful last night for the Giants as the Browns didn’t even punt one time!  The Browns rushed for 144 yards on 30 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 29 passes for 310 yards.  The Giants are now 4-1 on the season after this loss.

The New York Giants are proving last year wasn’t a fluke as they have been dominating so far this season.  They will try to push the Browns around in the running game with Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw against a defense that is allowing 126.0 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry.  The Browns do have six interceptions this season so Eli Manning will have to be careful throwing the ball.  But, the Browns don’t have a CB near the size of Plaxico Burress so look for some jump balls from the Giants.

With TE Kellen Winslow not playing tonight due to injury the Browns will likely try to keep the ball on the ground with Jamal Lewis against a Giants’ defense that is only allowing 82.0 yards rushing per game and 3.7 yards per carry.  Derek Anderson has been sacked 8 times already this season and that’s not a good thing for the Browns who have to deal with the Giants’ D-Line who have racked up 15 sacks already this season.  Braylon Edwards and Donte’ Stallworth must be ready to take some hits as the Browns won’t likely have the time to throw deep.

The Giants are out to prove that last season was not a fluke as they dominated again last Sunday against the Seahawks.  The Giants out yarded the Seahawks 523-187 as they held onto the football for a very impressive 36:28 in this game.  The Giants spread the ball around well on the ground as Brandon Jacobs (136 yards rushing, 2 TDs), Ahmad Bradshaw (65 yards rushing) and Derrick Ward (40 yards rushing) all had good games.  Eli Manning had a great game himself completing 19 of 25 passes for 267 yards with 2 TD passes.  David Carr came in at mop up time and completed his only pass attempt for a 5-yard TD to WR Sinorice Moss.  Domenik Hixon (4 rec, 102 yards, TD) and Sinorice Moss (4 rec, 45 yards, 2 TDs) led the way in the passing game for the Giants last week as they both stepped up big time.  The Giants’ defense was outstanding as usual holding the Seahawks to 74 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.4 ypc) and 113 yards passing.  The Giants are now 4-0 on the season.

This should be a very interesting football game as Mike Holmgren and Tom Coughlin both had a extra week to prepare for this game due to bye weeks.  The Seahawks will try to run a balanced offense to keep the Giants’ defense honest in rushing the passer.  If Matt Hasselbeck has time to throw the ball against the Giants he will have a good game now that Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are back.  But, the Giants already have 13 sacks this season so Hasselbeck will have to get rid of the ball fast.  RB Julius Jones has been great this season (312 yards rushing, 5.1 yards per carry) but the Giants only allow 84.7 yards rushing per game and 3.8 yards per carry this season.

The Giants would love to pound the football with Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward against the Seahawks but they have a good set of linebackers who will make that hard on them to do.  The Seahawks are only allowing 88.0 yards rushing per game and 3.5 yards per carry this season.  The Seahawks would like to force Eli Manning to beat them with his arm as he will be without Plaxico Burress who often snatches bad passes out of the air making him look good.  The Seahawks have 10 sacks already this season and Manning sometimes has trouble when rushed well.
