6. (199) Robert Henderson, DE

Robert Henderson was such a dominating player in college that the Giants decided to take a chance on him.  Henderson is 6′3″, 278 pounds and he’s pretty fast for his size.  Henderson played in 46 games (33 starts) at Southern Mississippi and he finished up with 173 tackles, had 29.5 tackles for a loss, had 13.5 sacks, forced 7 fumbles and he broke up 9 passes.  Henderson might turn out to be a really good pick for the Giants.

6. (198) Andre Woodson, QB

Andre Woodson has all of the tools needed to be a good NFL QB.  He has nice size at 6′4″, 234 pounds and he can run a 4.88 40 so he can get out of trouble if he has to.  His arm is plenty strong enough to make all of the throws needed to succeed in the NFL.  It will be up to him to learn the playbook and not rely on the coaches so much like he did at Kentucky.  Woodson played in 44 games (37 starts) at Kentucky and he completed 791 of 1,278 passes (61.9%) for 9,360 yards with 79 TD passes and only 25 interceptions.  Woodson will likely be the young QB the Giants select to groom behind Eli Manning.

5. (165) Jonathan Goff, MLB

Jonathan Goff has the size (6′2″, 238 pounds) and speed combo (4.75 40) that the scouts love.  But, he is not a good open field tackler and he has problems in pass coverage.  It will be interesting to see if Goff improves in those areas because if he doesn’t he will have a hard time making the Giants’ roster.  Goff played in 46 games (39 starts) at Vanderbilt and he finished with 307 tackles, had 15.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, broke up 11 passes and he intercepted 3 passes.  This pick looks like it was a reach by the Giants.

4. (123) Bryan Kehl, OLB

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by admin on Saturday 7 June 2008 at 1:03 pm

Bryan Kehl is a solid all around football player.  His only real weakness is that he’s not good at covering RBs and TEs in the passing game.  But he plays all out on every play and he is a good special teams player.  Kehl is 6′2″, 234 pounds and he runs a 4.65 40.  He can make plays to the sideline in the running game.  Kehl played in 50 games (26 starts) at BYU and he finished with 205 tackles, had 20.5 tackles for a loss, had 7 sacks, broke up 11 passes and had three interceptions.  Kehl could develop into a starter in the future but he’ll likely be a backup and special teams player as a rookie.

3. (95) Mario Manningham, WR

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by admin on Saturday 7 June 2008 at 12:54 pm

Mario Manningham might not be the biggest WR at 6′0″, 180 pounds and he might not be the fastest timed one either (4.5 40), but he’s an excellent all around receiver and the Giants were really lucky to get him in the 3rd round.  Many projections had Manningham going in the first round.  He is fearless over the middle and he has moves that leave defenders grasping at air.  Manningham played in 34 games (24 starts) at Michigan and he caught 137 passes for 2,310 yards (16.9 avg) with 27 TD grabs.  Look for Manningham to likely be the Giants’ #3 WR as a rookie but he might be able to bump Amani Toomer to that job in the near future.
