New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by JessePex on Friday 19 October 2007 at 7:48 pm
The 49ers season started out well with 2 straight wins but they Niners have lost three games in a row in which they have been outscored 69-26!  The Giants were the opposite as they lost their first two games but they have won 4 games in a row in dominant fashion as they’ve outscored their opponents 106-54!

The 49ers are having serious issues on the offensive line as they have allowed 18 sacks this season and Frank Gore is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry.  That’s bad news against a Giants defense that is only allowing 96.5 yards rushing per game and they have sacked the opposing QB an amazing 21 times already this season.  The Niners would like to run the ball with Frank Gore but that will be easier said than done against MLB Antonio Pierce and the Giants’ D-Line.  With Alex Smith likely to start this game the Niners will need their receivers to show some heart over the middle because the Giants will be bringing big time heat on the blitz.

The 49ers have a solid defense but the Giants will pose some matchup problems for them.  The 49ers must get some heat on Eli Manning or he will be able to pick them apart.  He loves throwing jump balls to Plaxico Burress (30 rec, 507 yards, 8 TD grabs) and Amami Toomer (26 rec, 306 yards, TD) so CBs Walt Harris and Nate Clements will have their hands full.  Don’t think that the Giants won’t also pound the football on the ground and it’s doesn’t matter if it’s Reuben Droughns, Brandon Jacobs or Derrick Ward running the football as the Giants are averaging 128.8 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  Rookie MLB Patrick Willis will have his hands full this week trying to deal with the Giants’ power running game.

PREDICTION:  The Giants are the hot team and the 49ers aren’t showing any fire right now on offense.  GIANTS 27, 49ers 10.

New York Giants 31, Atlanta Falcons 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by JessePex on Tuesday 16 October 2007 at 11:51 am

The Giants completely dominated the Falcons last night.  Eli Manning led the way as he completed 27 of 39 passes for 303 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 interceptions.  Reuben Droughns had his best game as a Giant as he carried the ball 14 times for 90 yards (6.4 ypc) with a TD run.  Brandon Jacobs also did some heavy lifting in the running game as he carried the ball 13 times for 86 yards (6.6 ypc).  Derrick Ward also got a little work as he carried the ball 8 times for 12 yards (1.5 ypc) with a TD run.  Manning did a good job of spreading the football around so the Falcons couldn’t key on anyone.  Plaxico Burress led the way with 6 catches for 97 yards (16.2 avg) with a TD.  Amani Toomer also had a solid game with 7 grabs for 89 yards (12.7 avg) with a TD grab.  TE Jeremy Shockey also made some big catches as he caught 5 passes for 63 yards (12.6 avg).  The Giants had possession of the football for an amazing 39:38 of this football game and it was a big reason for the ease of the victory last night.  The Giants ran the ball 35 times for 188 yards (5.4 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 39 passes for 303 yards.

MLB Antonio Pierce led the way for the Giants defense with 8 tackles and a sack.  The Giants were all over Joey Harrington as they sacked him 4 times last night.  The Falcons rushed for 103 yards on 15 carries (6.9 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 39 passes for 181 yards.

Eli Manning’s Performance

Blogged under Uncategorized by sheila on Sunday 14 October 2007 at 9:12 am
If one were to understand the true nature of Eli Mannings performance, one needs to advise him to wear a personal dosimeter to understand if his capabilities are stunted by ionizing radiation.
I have seen people in my profession of computer engineering who for not letting anyone prop them up in return to look the other way when people did inferior work get cowed down.
Just a hunch.

New York Giants vs. Atlanta Falcons

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by JessePex on Friday 12 October 2007 at 3:37 pm

These are two teams going in opposite directions as the Giants have won 3 games in a row while the Falcons are struggling at 1-4 on the season.  In the Giants last three games they have outscored their opponents 75-44!

The Giants will try to run a balanced offense against against a Falcons defense that is a tad soft against the run (121.0 yards rushing) and a bit giving in the passing game (204.0 yards per game).  Look for Brandon Jacobs (126 yards rushing, 4.8 ypc) and Derrick Ward (409 yards rushing, 122 yards receiving) should really test the linebacking corps of the Falcons.  But, Michael Boley and Keith Brooking could be up to the challenge.  If that is the case the Giants should have no problem throwing the ball against the Falcons.  Eli Manning (1,076 yards, 9 TD passes) should be able to find Plaxico Burress (24 rec, 410 yards, 7 TDs), Amani Toomer (19 rec, 217 yards) and Jeremy Shockey (18 rec, 230 yards) down the field against the Falcons defense.

The Falcons could have some success throwing the football as long as they give Harrington time to throw.  That will be easier said than done against the Giants defense which already has 17 sacks this season.  Couple that with the fact that Harrington will be having an undrafted rookie (Renardo Foster) blocking his blind side and he better get rid of the ball really fast.  Roddy White (21 rec, 356 yards), Alge Crumpler (18 rec, 194 yards) and Michael Jenkins (16 rec, 170 yards) could find some room to get open against a secondary that is allowing 219.4 yards passing per game this season.  Warrick Dunn (249 yards rushing, 3.4 ypc) and Jerious Norwood (147 yards rushing, 4.2 ypc) will likely find yards tough to come by running the ball as the Giants are allowing only 95.2 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.

PREDICTION:  The furious pass rush of the Giants will lead Joey Harrington to throw a few passes to them and that will be way too much for them to overcome as the Giants win big.

New York Giants 35, New York Jets 24

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by JessePex on Monday 8 October 2007 at 4:36 pm

The Giants dominated the 4th quarter to win the game yesterday.  The Jets were leading 24-21 after three quarters but the Giants drove 98 yards in a 8-play drive for a TD and they intercepted a Chad Pennington pass and returned it for a TD in the 4th quarter to win the game.  Eli Manning was efficient at QB as he completed 13 of 25 passes for 186 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 interception.  Brandon Jacobs came back in a big way from injury as he carried the ball 20 times for 100 yards (5.0 ypc) including a TD run but he also fumbled in the first quarter and it was returned for a TD.  Derrick Ward also had a solid game as he carried the ball 13 times for 56 yards (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 8 yards and a TD.  Plaxico Burress had a monster game as he caught 5 passes for 124 yards (24.8 avg) including a huge 53-yard TD reception in the 4th quarter.  TE Jeremy Shockey pitched in with 2 grabs for 33 yards (16.5 avg) including a TD.  The Giants finished up with 188 yards rushing on 39 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 25 passes for 186 yards.

The defense was outstanding for the Giants yesterday.  Rookie CB Aaron Ross only played in the 2nd half of the game due to a suspension for disciplinary reasons but he still made 2 tackles and intercepted 2 passes.  One of Ross’ interceptions was in the 4th quarter and he returned it 43 yards for a TD.  The Giants held the Jets to 55 yards rushing on 25 carries (2.2 ypc) and the Jets completed 21 of 36 passes for 229 yards.

The New York Giants are happy with their return men

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by JessePex on Friday 5 October 2007 at 10:10 pm

The Giants would love to have a gamebreaker returning kicks but they have three solid players handling the chores.  R.W. McQuarters has the look of a player that can take a punt return to the house but he hasn’t come close yet this season.  He has returned 10 punts for 79 yards (7.9 avg).  Running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Reuben Droughns have been handling the kickoff returns for the Giants this year.  Bradshaw has returned 9 kicks for 234 yards (26.0 avg) and Droughns has returned 7 kickoffs for 172 yards (24.6 avg).

The New York Giants re-sign WR Anthony Mix to the Practice Squad

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by JessePex on Friday 5 October 2007 at 10:01 pm

The Giants have re-signed Anthony Mix and placed him on the Practice Squad.  This was a smart move by the Giants as Mix has some talent.  He has caught 3 passes for 39 yards (13.0 avg) so far this season.

New York Giants vs. New York Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by JessePex on Friday 5 October 2007 at 4:49 pm
This is a big game for both teams.  The Jets are a surprising 1-3 and they were shredded last week by a rookie QB making his first NFL start.  The Giants have seem to gotten back on the right track as they have fixed up the defense.  The defense allowed 80 points in the first two weeks (both losses) but they have only allowed 20 points in the last two weeks which were both wins.

The Jets look like they might be in some trouble in this matchup as they have been having offensive line problems and the Giants had 12 sacks against Donovan McNabb last week who is much more mobile than Chad Pennington.  With that in mind look for the Jets to run the football and throw short passes for the receivers.  Thomas Jones has been a disappointment so far this season for the Jets as he has 254 yards rushing (3.4 ypc) but the Giants allow 105.3 yards rushing per game and 3.9 yards per carry so look for the Jets to try out the running game.  Chad Pennington (105.8 QB Rating) will have to get rid of the ball fast against a Giants defense that has 16 sacks already this season.  Jerricho Cotchery (26 rec, 382 yards) and Laveranues Coles (24 rec, 211 yards) will have to make some big plays over the middle because the Jets won’t likely have much time to throw the ball.

The Jets defense is really bad against the pass and that’s bad news when playing the Giants.  The Jets are allowing 253.0 yards passing per game so Eli Manning (890 yards passing) will likely spread the football around to Plaxico Burress (19 rec, 286 yards, 6 TDs), Amani Toomer (19 rec, 217 yards) and TE Jeremy Shockey (16 rec, 197 yards) and the Jets will have problems stopping them.  Brandon Jacobs is ready to return to work and that is bad news for the Jets defense that is allowing 112.5 yards rushing per game.  Jacobs is a bully and he will try to bring the pain to the Jets defense.

PREDICTION:  The Giants almost win every matchup in this football game and they are playing much better than the Jets.  Look for the Giants to win this game by 7-10 points.

The New York Giants claim KR/PR Domenik Hixon off waivers from the Giants and cut WR Anthony Mix

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page by JessePex on Wednesday 3 October 2007 at 8:42 pm

The Giants have claimed KR/PR Domenik Hixon off of waivers from the Giants.  Hixon was cut by the Broncos after he had a crucial fumble against the Colts last weekend.  Hixon has returned 7 punts for 32 yards (4.6 avg) and he also has returned 12 kickoffs for 274 yards (22.8 avg) so far this season.  Look for the Giants to also look at Hixon at WR after they surprisingly cut WR Anthony Mix who was outstanding for them in the pre-season.  Mix caught 3 passes for 39 yards (13.0 avg) for the Giants this year.

New York Giants 16, Philadelphia Eagles 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by JessePex on Monday 1 October 2007 at 2:30 am

The Eagles never really had a chance in this game as the Giants sacked Donovan McNabb 12 times!  Defense ruled the night for the Giants as safety Gibril Wilson led the way with 11 tackles.  But, DE Osi Umenyiora was a dominator last night as he made 6 tackles and had 6 SACKS!  DE Justin Tuck (7 tackles, 2 sacks), OLB Mathias Kiwanuka (7 tackles, 3 sacks) and DE Michael Strahan (6 tackles, 1 sack) all got in on the glory last night.  OLB Kawika Mitchell only had 2 tackles but he returned a fumble 17 yards for a TD.  The Eagles rushed for 114 yards on 23 carries (5.0 ypc) and they completed 15 of 31 passes for 76 yards.

The offense of the Giants didn’t play too well but they didn’t have to last night.  Eli Manning completed 14 of 26 passes for 135 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  RB Derrick Ward continued his fine play this season with 19 carries for 80 yards (4.2 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 26 yards.  WRs Amani Toomer (4 rec, 54 yards) and Plaxico Burress (4 rec, 24 yards, TD) also pitched in on offense.  The Giants finished up with 83 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.1 ypc) and they completed 14 of 26 passes for 129 yards.
