The New York Giants place fullback Jim Finn on IR

The Giants have placed starting fullback Jim Finn on the Injured Reserve list after he suffered a serious injury to his shoulder.  He played in all 16 games (11 starts) last season for the Giants and he carried the ball 2 times for 14 yards (7.0 ypc) and he caught 8 passes for 54 yards (6.8 avg).  This will hurt the Giants running game as Finn is a good lead blocker.  Look for the Giants to make a move to add a fullback to their roster.  That’s because Robert Douglas will be the starter by default as he’s the only FB on the roster right now.  Douglas was signed away from the Houston Texans’ practice squad last December.  He hasn’t appeared in an NFL game but he has nice size at 6′1″, 237 pounds so he might get his big chance this season.

The New York Giants sign Zach Piller

The New York Giants have signed OG Zach Piller to a 1-year contract.  He only played in 3 games last season (all starts) for the Tennessee Titans because of injury.  Piller will iikely be a backup for the Giants but he has a lot of starting experience (58 games) over his career so he should provide quality depth.

4. (116) Zak DeOssie, OLB

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by JessePex on Thursday 7 June 2007 at 11:37 am

Zak DeOssie is an impressive physical specimen at 6′4″, 248 pounds and he runs a 4.6 40 which is very fast for a man his size.  Still, he doesn’t drive through his tackles and he wasn’t near as dominating as a player with his skills should have been in college.  The step up in competition will also likely take him a while to adjust to as he played college at Brown.  He is however a great special teams player and that’s probably the main reason the Giants drafted him.  He likely will play on all of the special teams units as a rookie and he’s a good long snapper which is a bonus.  At Brown, DeOssie played in 36 games (29 starts) and he made 315 tackles, 36.5 tackles for a loss, had 10.5 sacks, broke up 11 passes and had 4 interceptions.
