The Giants have re-signed long snapper Ryan Kuehl.  Kuehl has 10 years of NFL experience including the last 4 with the Giants.  This was money well spent at the Giants snaps are always right on the money.

The Giants cut a few players and a couple of players retire

The Giants have lost five key players since the season had ended as they have cut LBs Carlos Emmons, LaVar Arrington and offensive tackle Luke Petitgout who was slow to heal from a broken leg.  They could look to re-sign Petitgout or Arrington to a reduced salary, but it’s more likely that both of them will leave.  OT Bob Whitfield and Tiki Barber have both retired.  Losing Barber is tough because he was a great football player on the field and a great person off of it.  Brandon Jacobs will likely get his big chance this season to carry the load.

Giants get good production out of their TEs

The Giants got a lot of production out of their TEs as they caught 78 passes for 704 yards and 7 TDs as a unit.  Jeremy Shockey played in 15 games last season (all starts) and he caught 66 passes for 623 yards (9.4 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  For his career, Shockey played in 69 games (68 starts) and he has caught 314 passes for 3,609 yards (11.5 avg) with 24 TD grabs.

Visanthe Shiancoe played in 16 games (4 starts) and he caught 12 passes for 81 yards (6.8 avg).  For his career, Shiancoe has played in 64 games (23 starts) and he has caught 35 passes for 253 yards (7.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs.

The Giants reload on the defensive side with the draft

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by ravenhater on Thursday 1 February 2007 at 1:45 pm

The Giants did a good job of bringing in defensive talent because they were getting a little old on that side of the football.  I think they did a decent job and here’s a breakdown:

Many draft experts thought the Giants were crazy to bring in another defensive end in the first round.  But, the Giants looked really smart by picking Mathias Kiwanuka when Michael Strahan went down to injury.  He played in all 16 games and made 53 tackles, had 4 sacks, intercepted 2 passes, defensed 2 passes and forced 2 fumbles.  This is just the tip of the iceberg for Kiwanuka who could wind up being a dominant pass rusher in the near future.

In the second round the Giants drafted WR Sinorice Moss.  His season was pretty much ruined by injury as he played in only 6 games and caught 5 passes for 25 yards (5.0 avg).  He also returned 10 kickoffs for 194 yards (19.4 avg).  The Giants need Moss to stay healthy and at least be the #3 WR for them next season.

3rd round pick Gerris Wilkinson (ILB) looks like a future starter for the Giants.  He played in all 16 games and made 27 tackles, defensed 1 pass and forced 2 fumbles.

DT Barry Cofield had an outstanding rookie season for a 4th round pick.  He played in all 16 games and made 44 tackles, had 1.5 sacks and defensed 3 passes.  He looks like he has a future as a starter for the Giants.

The other 4th round pick of the Giants was OT Guy Whimper.  Whimper played in 8 games but he didn’t start any.  He should be a reserve for the Giants next season.

5th round pick Charlie Peprah (SS) didn’t make the team.

7th round pick Gerrick McPhearson (CB) didn’t play a down for the Giants as a rookie.
