Giants feed Tiki and win 34-28 in Washington

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 31 December 2006 at 9:20 am

The Giants decided to just give Tiki Barber the ball and let him win the game for them.  Barber was unstoppable with 234 yards rushing on 23 carries (10.4 ypc) and 3 TDs!  Brandon Jacobs also chipped in with 6 carries for 25 yards (4.2 ypc).  Eli Manning didn’t play well once again, so the Giants were real lucky to have Barber play so well.  Manning only completed 12 of 26 passes for 101 yards passing and 1 TD.  Tim Carter caught the TD pass from Manning and finished the game with 2 catches for 14 yards.

Antonio Pierce (10 tackles) and Brandon Short (9 tackles, forced fumble) led a Giants defense that didn’t play too well.  The Redskins ran the ball 29 times for 128 yards (4.4 ypc).  The Redskins completed 22 of 32 passes for 265 net yards passing.

This was a big win that could put the Giants in the playoffs at 8-8.

New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 29 December 2006 at 1:15 am

The Giants have fallen on hard times as they’re only won one of their last 7 games.  It’s amazing, but they still have a chance to make the playoffs.  The Redskins have played alot better as a team after they made the switch to Jason Campbell at QB.

The Giants will likely try to keep the ball on the ground against a Redskins defense that is allowing 129.1 yards rushing per game.  Tiki Barber (1,428 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (398 yards rushing) should both have good games on Saturday.  The Redskins have a very poor secondary so if the Giants establish the running game, look for Eli Manning to use alot of play action passes.  Jeremy Shockey is pretty beat up physically right now, so the Giants may prefer to chuck it deep to Plaxico Burress and Tim Carter or David Tyree.

The Redskins will also prefer to run the football.  LeDell Betts has been outstanding this season as he’s rushed for 1,062 yards (4.7 ypc), and he should have another good game.  The Giants run defense is allowing 113.5 yards per game and 4.0 yards per carry so far this season.  Look for Jason Campbell to throw alot of safe passes to TE Chris Cooley and Betts.  Also, watch for the Skins to throw over the top to Santana Moss if the Giants sneak up on defense to stop the run.

This should be a good football game.  The Giants really need this game, but they’ve played really awful lately.  I’m siding with the Redskins in this game because they’re playing better right now and they’re at home.

Giants playoff scenarios

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 28 December 2006 at 8:01 pm

The New York Giants can clinch a playoff berth with:  1) a win and clinch strength of victory tiebreaker over Green Bay  2) a win and a Green Bay loss or tie  3) a tie and Green Bay, St. Louis, Atlanta and Carolina all lose or tie  4) Green Bay, St. Louis, Atlanta and Carolina all lose.

The Giants pretty much did themselves in this season and need some help to make the playoffs, even though they don’t deserve to make it.

Giants lay an egg on Christmas Eve and get thumped 30-7 by the Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 25 December 2006 at 10:42 am

What a horrible thing to do to your fans on Christmas Eve in a home game!  The Giants didn’t even show up for their game yesterday.   Eli Manning was pathetic again as he only completed 9 of 25 passes for 74 yards with a TD and an INT.  Tiki Barber carried the ball 16 times for 71 yards (4.4 ypc).  Plaxico Burress caught 1 pass and it was a 55 yard TD reception.

The Giants defense was awful against the Saints.  The Saints ran the ball 53 times for 236 yards rushing (4.5 ypc).  The Saints only completed 13 of 32 passes for 123 net yards passing, but the Saints didn’t need to pass yesterday.

The Giants fell to 7-8 on the season with this loss.

New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 21 December 2006 at 2:21 pm
Both the Saints and Giants are coming off disappointing losses last week, the Saints lost 16-10 at home against the Redskins and the Giants fell 36-22 at home to the Eagles.

The Saints will probably come out throwing the football to open up their running game.  Drew Brees (4,240 yards passing) should find the Giants pass defense not to hard to deal with.  The Giants are allowing an average of 232.9 net yards passing per game so far this season!  Look for Marques Colston (66 rec, 1,001 yards), Devery Henderson (22.5 avg) and Terrance Copper to have good games.  Reggie Bush (84 rec, 706 yards receiving) should be able to exploit the average speed of the Giants’ linebackers.  The Saints won’t forget to run the ball because McAllister and Bush can help keep their defense off the field if they get a lead.

The Giants are going to run the ball alot at the Saints.  Tiki Barber (1,357 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (398 yards rushing) should get a ton of yards against the Saints run defense which is allowing 133.9 yards per game rushing and 5.1 yards per carry so far this season.  After the Giants get the running game going and make no mistake they will….Manning will run some play-action passes with shots deep to Plaxico Burress and short to Jeremy Shockey and Tiki Barber out of the backfield.

The team that wins this game will be the one that wins the turnover battle, because these teams strengths match up with the other teams weakness.  It should be a high scoring football game.

Derrick Ward out for season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Wednesday 20 December 2006 at 6:21 pm

Reserve running back Derrick Ward will miss the rest of the season after breaking the same foot last Sunday that he broke in training camp.  He mostly was a kick-returner this season as he returned 23 kick-offs for 466 yards (20.3 avg).

The Giants self-destruct in the 4th quarter and fall 36-22

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 8:26 pm

The Giants didn’t give themselves a chance to win this game.  They started making big errors in the 4th quarter and it cost them the game.  Eli Manning completed 28 of 40 passes for 282 yards and threw 2 INTs, one of which was returned for a TD late in the 4th quarter to seal the Giants fate!   Tiki Barber carried the ball 19 times for 75 yards (3.9 ypc) and a TD.  He also caught 5 passes for 29 yards.  Brandon Jacobs carried the ball 3 times for 13 yards (4.3 ypc) and a TD.  Plaxico Burress had a really good game with 6 catches for 120 yards.  Jeremy Shockey was really busy as he caught 8 passes for 70 yards.  Tim Carter pitched in with 4 catches for 30 yards.

Antonio Pierce led the way for the Giants defense with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery.  Will Demps had a great game with 6 tackles, a sack, an interception and a force fumble.  Overall though, the defense didn’t play that well.  The Eagles carried the ball 30 times for 161 yards (5.4 ypc).  The Eagles also completed 19 of 28 passes for 221 net yards passing.

The Giants fell to 7-7 on the season with this loss.  Major damage has been done to the Giants playoff hopes with this loss.

Antonio Pierce steps up on defense

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 2:00 pm

With the injuries to both starting defensive ends the Giants needed someone in the front 7 to step up.  Antonio Pierce has been that guy.  Pierce has 104 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and an interception.  The Giants probably wish they got more production out of their linebackers…..but not Antonio Pierce.

New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 December 2006 at 8:19 pm

The Eagles have won two games in a row.  The Giants snapped a 4 game losing streak with a win last week in Carolina.

Look for the Eagles to put alot of pressure on the Giants LB’s by getting the ball to Brian Westbrook running and receiving.  Westbrook has 1,619 yards rushing & receiving so far this season.  The Giants run defense has been pretty tough allowing 100.4 yards rushing and 3.8 yards per carry so far this season.  The Eagles will also throw alot, because that’s their style.  Jeff Garcia (97.4 QB rating) should have time to throw and he’ll be looking for Westbrook & Smith short.  As soon as the safeties creep up, Garcia will go deep to Reggie Brown (39 rec, 712 yards) and Donte Stallworth (34 rec, 669 yards).

Look for the Giants to run the ball alot.  The Eagles allow 142.5 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  So look for Tiki Barber (1,282 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (385 yards rushing) to both have huge games.  Eli Manning will probably use play-action to freeze the linebackers and slow the pass rush.  When he throws it will likely be directed at Jeremy Shockey or Plaxico Burress.

This game will go to whichever QB plays better.

Michael Strahan could be done for season

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 12 December 2006 at 4:05 pm

It’s possible that Mike Strahan could be done for the season with a foot injury that’s been very slow to heal.  This would be a blow to the defense, because Strahan is a game-changer when he’s on the field.  Strahan would finish the season with 33 tackles and 3 sacks.  This will put big pressure on Mathias Kiwanuka to pick up his level of play.  He has the skills to be an elite pass-rusher, but he needs to concentrate better and play until the whistle blows.
