Giants struggle, but beat Texans 14-10

The defense played well for the Giants, but the offense just did enough to win the game.  Eli Manning completed 17 of 28 passes for 179 yards with a TD and an INT.  Tiki Barber had his usual good game with 17 carries for 115 yards (6.8 ypc) and a TD, he also caught 3 passes for 40 yards.  Brandon Jacobs had a rough time with 7 carries for 19 yards (2.7 ypc).  TE Jeremy Shockey had a good game with 8 catches for 66 yards and a TD.

The defense played a great game against the Texans.  LB Carlos Emmons and S Gibril Wilson led the way with 8 tackles each.  Rookie DE Mathias Kiwanuka added 6 tackles and a sack.  The Giants stuffed the Texans running game, holding them to 81 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.1 ypc).  The Texans did complete 21 of 30 passes for 170 net yards passing.

It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win.

Rookie linebacker to start on Sunday

Rookie linebacker Gerris Wilkinson is expected to start in place of Brandon Short who will sit out the game on Sunday with an injured quadriceps.  The linebacking corps for the Giants is getting thin.

Giants vs. Texans

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 1 November 2006 at 3:13 pm
The Texans have played alot better the last two weeks, splitting the games and averaging 24.5 points per game.  The Giants are rolling with 4 straight victories in which they have out-scored their opponents 99-42!

The Texans need to keep running the ball as well as they have the last two weeks.  The offensive line has been playing better and rookie RB Wali Lundy is benefitting from it.  The Giants are pretty tough against the run allowing 96.9 yards rushing and 3.9 yards per carrry.  If the Texans establish some sort of running game, that would slow the Giants pass rush and allow David Carr some shots downfield where the Texans have an advantage.  Andre Johnson (56 rec, 669 yards), Eric Moulds (28 rec, 325 yards) and TE Owen Daniels (18 rec, 183 yards) should be able to have success against a Giants secondary that allows 211.3 net yards passing per game.

The Giants should be able to do whatever they want against the Texans pathetic defense.  Look for Tiki Barber (715 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (258 yards rushing) to have field days against a Texans defense that allows 134.6 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  Eli Manning should also have a good game as his receivers hold a huge height advantage over the Texans pair of 5′10″ cornerbacks.  Look for Plaxico Burress (31 rec, 510 yards), Amani Toomer (30 rec, 344 yards) and Jeremy Shockey (23 rec, 240 yards) to all get their share of yards in this game.

The Giants will win this game, as they might score everytime they have the ball unless the weather is bad.  The Texans are prone to making huge mistakes that cost them big-time!

A Letter Of Condolences

Blogged under Front Page,Why The Skins Suck by curt5446 on Wednesday 1 November 2006 at 2:23 pm

Dear Giant Fan,

I’m wary to write this letter. It’s not of my character or upbringing to intercede in the personal matters of others, especially people I do not know.

But, as someone who has experienced loss I know the leavening effect a little foreknowledge can have on grief. So this letter is one of condolence. For your loss. The loss you will experience on November 12th at the Meadowlands. It is there that the Monsters of the Midway — our Monsters of the Midway — will end the Giant’s season and relegate them to the ignominy of a chance — if they’re lucky — at a wild card spot. Or, more likely here, some middling slot in the draft.

Prepare, my friend, for the weeks when Chicago comes to New York, owns the town, destroys the competition, and heads home to continue their march to Miami.

With our condolences,

Bearz Nation

Giants sign linebacker

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 1 November 2006 at 3:17 am

The Giants have signed veteran linebacker Chris Claiborne.  Claiborne’s signing was essential due to the injuries that are depleting the linebacker corps.
