Giants have epic melt down in 4th quarter and lose 24-21 to Titans

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 27 November 2006 at 2:16 am

The New York Giants were winning this game 21-0 with only 9:35 seconds left in the football game, but they wound up losing the game.

Eli Manning was awful again as he completed 18 of 28 passes for 143 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT.  Tiki Barber had a decent game with 25 carries for 82 yards (3.3 ypc) and he caught 5 passes for 30 yards.  Brandon Jacobs was a horse as usual with 9 carries for 54 yards (6.0 ypc) and 2 TDs.  Plaxico Burress caught 4 passes for 44 yards and a TD, and Jeremy Shockey caught 5 passes for 39 yards.

The defense played great for three quarters but then the wheels fell off.  The Titans carried the ball 25 times for 108 yards (4.3 ypc).  The Titans completed 24 of 35 passes for 235 net yards passing.

The Giants deserved to lose this football game.  They now stand at 6-5 and need Eli Manning to step up as he has been horrible lately.

New York Giants vs. Tennessee Titans

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 24 November 2006 at 2:18 pm

The Giants might be feeling a little down after getting their butts kicked two weeks in a row (outscored 64-30)!  The Titans are probably feeling pretty good after ruining the Eagles season last week and thrashing them 31-13!

The Giants need to be able to run the ball to be effective on offense.  They should have no problem moving the ball on the ground against the Titans who are allowing 148.1 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry.  Tiki Barber (998 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (286 yards rushing, 6 TDs) should have field days against the Titans.  Eli Manning needs to get his act together as he has had a QB rating of under 60.0 in 4 consecutive games.  The Titans should give him a good chance of getting things right as they allow 227.8 net yards passing per game.

The Titans are all about running the football.  Travis Henry is having an outstanding season (729 yards rushing) and Vince Young (225 yards rushing) is a serious threat too.  The Giants are allowing 104.2 yards rushing per game and 3.7 yards per carry.  The Giants pass defense isn’t that good, but the Titans rarely throw the ball so that probably won’t be a factor.

The Giants are the better football team, but the Titans have shocked some teams so I wouldn’t be surprised if they won the game.

Giants get cut down to size by Jaguars 26-10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 21 November 2006 at 2:17 am

One look into Eli Manning’s eyes and you knew the Giants were in for a long night.  Manning completed 19 of 41 passes for 230 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT.  Tiki Barber had his first bad game in a long time with 10 carries for 27 yards (2.7 ypc). Jeremy Shockey (7 rec, 82 yards) and Plaxico Burress (5 rec, 65 yards, TD) both had decent games for the Giants.

Antonio Pierce (10 tackles, fumble recovery) and Will Demps (9 tackles) came to play, but the rest of the defense was M.I.A.  The Jaguars carried the ball 43 times for 165 yards (3.8 ypc).  The Jags also completed 19 of 32 passes for 249 net yards thru the air.

This was an absolute beat-down on Monday Night Football.  It dropped the Giants to 6-4, tied for first with the Cowboys in the AFC East.

New York Giants vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Saturday 18 November 2006 at 12:08 am

The Giants had their five-game winning streak snapped last week when the Bears smacked them down 38-20!  The Jaguars suffered a disappointing loss to the Texans last week.  The Jags have been playing great defense, as they have only given up 26 total points the last three weeks.

Look for the Giants to run Tiki Barber (971 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (286 yards rushing) at the Jags defense that allows 103.7 yards rushing per game.  After the Giants establish the running game, look for Eli Manning to take some shots deep to Plaxico Burress.  Also, Manning will be looking for Shockey to keep the Jags safeties honest so that they can’t sneak up to help in run support.

The Jaguars must be able to run the football or they will be in trouble on Monday Night.  Fred Taylor (696 yards rushing) and Maurice Drew (331 yards rushing) will test the Giants defense all night long.  David Garrard is also a good running QB, which should help.  The Jags lack speed at receiver, so Garrard will have to be sharp on the short passes.

The Giants have the better football team and should win this football game.

New York Giants lose starting OT

Blogged under Big G-Men News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Wednesday 15 November 2006 at 1:07 am

Starting OT Luke Petitgout will miss the remainder of the season after breaking his leg.  The injuries are starting to mount for the Giants and this one will hurt the running game and pass protection.

Giants mauled by Bears 38-20

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 13 November 2006 at 1:48 am

The Giants played a good game for three quarters, but the Bears kicked their butt in the 4th quarter.  Eli Manning had a terrible game completing 14 of 32 passes for 121 yards and 2 INTs.  Tiki Barber had a great game carrying the ball 19 times for 141 yards (7.4 ypc).  Brandon Jacobs carried the ball twice for 9 yards, and both carries were TD runs.  Plaxico Burress (4 rec, 48 yards) and David Tyree (4 rec, 38 yards) were the Giants top 2 targets in the passing game.

Antonio Pierce played well and registered 15 tackles against the Bears.  Too bad his teammates didn’t have his back.  The Bears ran the ball 39 times for 118 yards (3.0 ypc).  The Bears completed 18 of 30 passes for 234 net yards passing.

The back breaking play was when Devin Hester returned a missed FG 108 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter!

This game hurt the Giants, but they’re still in first place in the NFC East.

Amani Toomer to miss the rest of the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Thursday 9 November 2006 at 4:44 pm

Amani Toomer will miss the rest of the season with a partially torn ACL.  Toomer was having a good season for the Giants with 32 catches for 360 yards (11.3 avg) and 3 TDs.  Tim Carter will get the first chance to start for the Giants.  He has caught 11 passes for 153 yards (13.9 avg) and a TD so far this season.

New York Giants vs. Chicago Bears

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 9 November 2006 at 4:39 pm
The Bears are trying to rebound from a 31-13 beat down at home against the previously 1-6 Miami Dolphins.  The Giants are soaring high on a five game winning streak.  This game could very well determine who gets home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs.

Look for the Bears to try to get their running game going against the Giants.  Thomas Jones (612 yards) and Cedric Benson (208 yards) have been disappointing so far as the Bears are only averaging 3.4 yards per carry this season.  The Giants run defense is tough, allowing only 94.9 yards rushing per game and 3.8 yards per carry, so it could be hard to run on them.  The Bears will more than likely look to Desmond Clark alot in the passing game this week, because they will be without WR Bernard Berrian.  The biggest problem with not having Berrian is that the Giants will likely double Mushin Muhammad (34 rec, 443 yards) because they’re not worried at all about Berrian’s replacements (Justin Gage & Rashied Davis).  So look for Grossman to challenge the Giants’ safeties and linebackers with Desmond Clark (29 rec, 429 yards, 3 TDs).

The Giants will also look to run the football as they average 143.0 yards rushing and 4.7 yards per carry.  Tiki Barber (830 yards rushing, 4.8 ypc) will seriously test the Bears strong run defense that has only allowed 91.9 yards rushing per game and 3.9 yards per carry.  Also, look for the Giants to give the jack-hammer, Brandon Jacobs (277 yards rushing, 4.8 ypc) a few more carries than usual to try to soften up the interior of the Bears defense.  With Amani Toomer out, I have a feeling that Jeremy Shockey will have an expanded role in the offense this week.  Shockey has caught 31 passes and 5 TDs this season so far, and he can cause problems for the Bears safeties and linebackers.  Plaxico Burress (31 rec, 510 yards) will still try to win some jump balls, but I think the Giants might play this game a little more conservative than usual to protect Eli Manning’s confidence.

I think the Giants will win this football game.  I just have a feeling that Rex Grossman is going to melt down again.

Eli Manning leads way for New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 12:52 pm

Eli Manning is building on his success of last season.  Manning is making good decisions with the ball and has the arm to get the ball deep (usually to Plaxico Burress).  Manning has completed 61.3% of his passes for 1,851 yards passing with 15 TDs and 9 INTs.  Eli has a QB rating of 87.5, but it could be a little better if he cut down on the pick-offs a little bit.

Michael Strahan out

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 7 November 2006 at 2:53 pm

Michael Strahan will miss 2-4 weeks with a Linsfranc sprain in his foot.  This is a huge loss to the Giants defense which has been ransacked by injury as of late.
