Giants get a week to soothe egos

The ugliness that came out of the beating the Seahawks applied to the Giants needs a little time to fade away.  Jeremy Shockey and Tom Coughlin have to remember that they are on the same side and need to quit picking on each other in the media.

Offensively, the Giants have looked pretty good.  On defense they have a split personality so far.  The Giants are stuffing the opponents running game, allowing only 89.0 yards per game and 2.9 yards per carry.  The pass rush has disappeared into thin air, as the Giants only have 2 sacks this season.  The Giants are allowing their opponents to complete 63.9% of their passes for 281 net yards passing per game.  Those issues need fixed or the Giants will have to win a bunch of shootouts this season.

Giants sleep-walk for 3 quarters, lose 42-30

The Giants are lucky that the Seahawks called off the dogs after building a 42-3 lead in the first three quarters.  The Giants came alive in the 4th quarter scoring 27 un-answered points.  Eli Manning completed 24 of 36 passes for 275 yards with 3 TDs and 3 INTs.  Tiki Barber ran the ball 14 times for 64 yards and caught 4 passes for 14 yards.  David Tyree caught 5 passes for 72 yards and a TD.  Jeremy Shockey caught 4 passes for 58 yards.  WR Tim Carter caught 3 passes for 43 yards and a TD, Amani Toomer caught 3 passes for 29 yards and a TD.

The defense didn’t play to well.  The Giants did ok against the run, holding the Seahawks to 106 yards and only 2.6 yards per carry.  The Seahawks completed 72.7% of their passes for 227 net yards thru the air and 5 TDs!

Giants vs. Seahawks

These are two teams with Super Bowl aspirations!

The Giants have an impressive offensive arsenal.  They will try out the Seahawks tough run defense (51.5 yards per game and 2.8 ypc) to set-up Eli Manning’s play-action passing attack.  RBs Tiki Barber (161 yards) and Brandon Jacobs (89 yards) form a good one-two punch that can wear out a defense.  Eli Manning is having a great start to the season averaging 309 yards passing per game.  Look for Manning to test the secondary deep with WRs Amani Toomer (17 rec, 178 yds) and Plaxico Burress (10 rec, 194 yds).  The LBs and safeties will be tested underneath in the passing game by RB Tiki Barber and TE Jeremy Shockey.

The Seahawks have been winning with defense, which is something new.  RB Shaun Alexander hasn’t been getting the running room he used to get without Steve Hutchinson around.  Look for the Seahawks to open this game throwing the ball against a Giants D that gives up 313 yards per week thru the air.  In fact, look for alot of 3 and 4 receiver sets for the Hawks this week.  WR Deion Branch will give Matt Hasselbeck another good weapon to attack the Giants with.

I look for the Seahawks to win a close game here.  The Gaints might have a let-down after their huge comeback win in Philly.

Giants have a comeback win for the ages 30-24 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 September 2006 at 4:00 pm

The Eagles were leading the Giants 24-7 at the start of the 4th quarter, and Eli Manning willed his team to victory. Eli Manning completed 31 of 43 passes (72.1%) for 371 yards with 3 TDs and a pick-off. Tiki Barber ran 21 times for 51 yards (2.4 ypc) and caught 7 passes for 57 yards (8.1 avg). Brandon Jacobs ran well again carrying the ball 5 times for 35 yards. WR Amani Toomer had maybe his best game ever for the Giants. Toomer caught 12 passes for 137 yards (11.4 avg) and 2 TDs. Plaxico Burress caught 6 passes for 114 yards (19.0 avg) and a TD.

The Giants defense played horrible for 3 quarters, but very well in the 4th quarter. The Eagles ran for 107 yards, but only 3.6 yards per carry. The Eagles completed 60% of their passes for 344 net yards in the air.

This will go down in Giants history as one of the greatest victories in the history of the Giants.

Giants vs. Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 14 September 2006 at 10:46 pm

The Giants dominated the game they played last week against the Colts, but somehow they lost the game.  The Giants look to change absolutely nothing against the Eagles.  The Giants front 7 will cause all kinds of problems for the Eagles just like they did against the Colts.  The Eagles will quickly find out that they’re not playing the Texans again this week.  The Eagles will try to stay balanced again this week, but the Giants will probably be able to shut down Philly’s running game.  If that happens, Donovan McNabb will have to get rid of the ball quickly against the Giants all-World defensive ends.

The Eagles defense will try to shut the run down and force Eli Manning to beat them.  Manning will be looking around for DB Roderick Hood who’s replacing Lito Sheppard due to injury.  The thought here is that the Giants will be able to move the ball on the Eagles improved defense.  This should be a great, hard-hitting football game that could go either way.

Still amazed that the Giants lost 26-21 to Colts

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 12 September 2006 at 8:24 am

The Giants dominated this game everywhere but the scoreboard.  Eli Manning had a good game completing 20 of 34 passes (58.8%) for 247 yards with 2 TDs and an interception.  RB Tiki Barber carried the ball 18 times for 110 yards (6.1 ypc) and caught 5 passes for 61 yards (12.2 avg).  Brandon Jacobs was a beast, carrying the ball 8 times for 54 yards (6.8 ypc) and a TD.  WR Plaxico Burress caught 4 passes for 80 yards (20.0 avg) and a TD.  TE Jeremy Shockey caught 5 passes for 59 yards (11.8 avg) and a TD.  WR Amani Toomer caught 5 passes for 41 yards (8.2 avg).

The Giants defense stuffed the Colts running game.  The Colts only ran for 55 yards on 2.4 yards per carry.  The Colts had some success thru the air though, connecting on 61% of their passes for 272 net yards passing.

Giants vs. Colts

Click here to see if the Giants are favored

The Colts are everyone’s pick to go to the Super Bowl…….but not so fast my friend.  The Colts are gonna find out the hard way, starting this week……that Joe Addai + Dominic Rhodes is less than Edgerrin James, and it’s not even close.  The Giants front 7 on their defense are gonna shut down Rhodes and Addai and force Manning to pass.  So what? Right?  The problem with that thinking is that Mike Strahan and Osi Umenyiora play defensive end and will be pressuring Peyton Manning to throw before he wants to.  The Giants have a good secondary that matches up very well with the Colts receivers.

The Colts defense is built on speed.  The Giants offense prefers to be physical, both in the running game and the passing game..  Tiki Barber is a tremendous mis-match against any linebacker on the Colts roster.  Barber will have a huge game on Sunday night, which will set up Eli Manning for play action passes to Shockey, Burress and Toomer.

I think the younger Manning beats big brother in a very good football game.

Tom Coughlin

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 5 September 2006 at 12:09 pm

Tom Coughlin is a good football coach and he’s a tough guy.  Coughlin’s career record is 85-75 (53.1% wins) and he has a 4-5 post-season record.  Coughlin has won two division titles.

With the Giants Coughlin’s record in 17-15 (53.1% wins).
