Giants looking good at receiver

Plaxico Burress is a huge target that excels at the jump ball.  He sometimes drops the easy pass, but sometimes makes the impossible catch look easy.  Burress has went over 1,000 yards receiving three times in his career.  Burress has played in 87 games (82 starts) and has caught 337 passes for 5,378 yards (16.0 avg) and 29 TDs.

Amani Toomer is the other starter.  Toomer has turned into more of a possession receiver over the years, as he now lacks the sprinters kick.  Toomer has went over 1,000 yards receiving five times in his career with the Giants.  He has played 150 games (106 starts) and has caught 529 passes for 7,797 yards (14.7 avg) and 44 TDs.  He also has rushed the ball 11 times for 110 yards.

Second round pick Sinorice Moss will have a chance to follow in his brother’s (Santana of the Redskins) footsteps.  He has super speed (4.4 40) but he’s also very small and easily gets pushed off his path.  Moss only started 15 games in college, so it might take him some time to get up to speed in the NFL.

David Tyree has been around for a few seasons and hasn’t done much.  He’ll need to step it up to move up the depth chart.  Tyree has played in 45 games (4 starts) and has caught 31 passes for 418 yards (13.5 avg) and 2 TDs.

Tim Carter is a fast runner, but he never really has taken advantage of it.  He also will need to step it up to move up.  Carter has played in 37 games (3 starts) and has caught 50 passes for 714 yards (14.3 avg) and a TD.  He also has run the ball 11 times for 97 yards (8.8 ypc).

Willie Ponder has been returning kicks for the Giants the last couple of seasons.  He has played in 26 games (0 starts) and has caught 8 passes for 38 yards (4.8 avg).

Jay Feely

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 3 August 2006 at 9:10 am

Which Jay Feely is the real one?  The one that only made 7 of 16 FG from 40+ yards his last two years in Atlanta?  Or the one that made 11 of 15 FG last season for the Giants?  Feely was very accurate for the G-Men last year and he scored a whopping 148 points!

Feely has connected on 78.6% of his career FGs and had averaged 7.30 points per game.

Make some cash on Christmas Eve

The Giants have beat up on the Saints as of late at home.  This could be a game the Giants really need late in the season and it should be cold.  The Giants are 3-0-1 against the spread the last four times these teams have met in the Meadowlands.  I think the Giants defense will rise to the challenge and shut the Saints down, as Reggie Bush is thinking “Man, it never got this cold at USC”.

Pay off the Christmas season and take the Giants.

Tiki Barber leads the way

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 2 August 2006 at 10:21 am

Tiki Barber has had an amazing run as the starting running back for the Giants.  He was not used alot running the ball early in his career, so the workload hasn’t effected him as much as it would most running backs.  For four straight seasons Barber has rushed for at least 1216 yards.  Barber is also a fine receiver as he has caught 50 or more passes for seven straight seasons, and never has caught less than 34 passes in a season for his career!  Barber is the most irreplaceable player on the roster.  Barber has played in 138 games in his career (93 starts) and has rushed for 8,787 yards (4.6 ypc) and 50 TDs.  He also has caught 528 passes for 4,718 yards and 12 TDs.

Brandon Jacobs is the short yardage specialist.  Jacobs could be much more and is the possible replacement for Barber if he ever decides to retire or is injured.  Jacobs is huge and pushes the pile, but he had a little problem with putting the ball on the carpet.  As long as he fixes his ball security issues, he will continue to get the rock around the goal-line.  Jacobs only carried the ball 38 times for 99 yards (2.6 ypc) for 7 TDs.  Don’t let the yards per carry average fool you, he almost always is against goal-line defenses.

Derrick Ward is the third string running back.  Ward doesn’t get much playing time because Barber and Jacobs take up all the snaps.  In 19 games (0 starts) he has rushed for 123 yards (3.5 ypc) and has caught two passes for 13 yards.

Chad Morton is a small back that is more of a third-down kind of back.  Morton has played in 88 games (5 starts) and has rushed for 360 yards (4.1 ypc) and has caught 48 passes for 419 yards and a TD.  Morton is most valuable as a kick returner.
